was thinking about a new neck turner. currently have a Sinclair 1500. does the 21st have a carbide cutter and also will my Sinclair nt mandrel work or will I have to buy a 21st mandrel? thanks allen

21st Century does have a carbide cutter for their neck turner. For .223, the 21st Century expander mandrel is .223, the turning arbor is .222 . You will need an expander mandrel that is approximately .001 bigger than your turning arbor.

i have a Sinclair expander mandrel and also a Sinclair turning mandrel. will they fit in the 21st century cutter? thanks allen

Just checked 21st Century site, mandrel and arbor are only $7.95 each.

Have you looked at the Gracey Neck Shaver, its light years ahead, but they've been making it for decades. It is one of those secrets that people don't like their competitors to find out.

Here's the link http://www.matchprep.com/shaver.htm The cutter spins while you insert the case, and the shoulder stops it.

I have been using one for a couple years after learning about it in Glen Zediker's book. Everything else seems so primitive.

What kind of tolerance can be achieved with the Gracey? Can you turn necks with +/- 1/10,000"?

I suppose you could if you're so inclined, but when dealing with neck turning that kind of accuracy is not required.

The cutters are a screw-in type that stick out on the inside, so you can make as fine as adjustment as you want. I use feeler gauges that are in increments of .001 inches, and that works for me. YMMV.

A disclaimer is appropriate here. I've no financial or other kind of relationship with Match Prep or Gracey. I am simply a user of this product.

Yes the sinclair mandrels will work in the 21st century if I remember correctly, I bought a complete set from John but I also have a complete set from Sinclair and believe there the same. Give John a call, he is the nicest guy you will ever talk to and his customer service is second to none!...Great company!
Wayne.
