21st Century Hydropress PSI levels

With the 21st Century Hydropress + Wilson dies:

For 6.5 creedmoor

I am getting anywhere between 70-90 PSI

Does this amount of PSI matter as long as I am sorting PSI by consistency? I am not lubing the necks before loading the round, which I see some people do.

Thoughts?

The psi doesn't matter, its consistency you want. Thats still higher than what I like though personally. 50-65 psi is my norm for most things.

If the neck tension gets much higher, don't force it. It will mess up the gage on the press. Done it...

Try a neck lube, or a thou larger bushing.

Consistency is.the key
I found my best groups in my bench gun 20 to 30
That tool will teach you a whole lot about what it takes to get consistent neck tension.
Whatever works for you to get it.
For me it was neck turning a group of brass to a consistent neck thickness, leaving the carbon in the necks. Using a K&M sizing mandrel for final neck sizing.

On a side note aka highjack does anyone know why this press/gauge will not go back to "zero"?

I think I would call them about it and send it back for repair, they have super fast turn around times ... This maybe why you are getting the high readings on seating, did you ever take it past 100? .... jim

I run a nylon bore brush connected to my battery powered drill motor in and out of the neck. Just a quick in and out at medium speed. It lowers the seating pressure and makes it more consistent. Easy and no lube in neck. I leave the carbon in the case.

Seating force (measured by pressure or torque) will vary directly with the the speed of the operation. What’s constant is the power required which is the product of time and work.

Spot on!... Done it this way for years and it works!

I wouldn't waste Johns time if it were me. I would pull the gauge to make sure you have no back pressure problems,...once removed if the gauge still isn't on zero I would buy a new one from hydraulic place in town or order a new one from John,...either way unless it came broke it's not Johns problem.

Wouldn't be a good idea to let John know that they are shipping him faulty parts?...... jim

So if I get 80 or 90 consistently my groups would be the same as if I got 35?

I’ve always had good luck with light neck tension. I’m fairly new to my hydro press. I turn, anneal and use expanders. I haven’t seen over 22#s on my gauge yet. 6BR that is. Speaking of consistency. I wonder what would be more consistent. 20-30 or 80-90. Humm.
