219 Donaldson Wasp Reamer

Planning ahead for the next project rifle. I love history and I love being different, enter the "Donaldson Wasp". Lucked into a full set of Wasp dies [including case forming dies] a while back for cheap, and started investigating the cartridge. I now have a donor Model 70 Winchester to use. Next step is to order a barrel and find a reamer.

Anybody have a long version 219 Donaldson Wasp reamer for sale? So far I havent found much of the rental market. Did find a couple, but am not certain which version Wasp, or even which brand they are. Im not opposed to ordering a reamer new for this project either. Looking for recommendations.

Here is what I want to do, you all chime in a tell me I am stupid or not considering something as you feel fit. Instead of using 30-30 rimmed brass, I want to use 225 Winchester semi rimmed brass. Ive already come up with a fair lot of new 225 brass, and the reason I want to go that way is because then I can use a standard .473 bolt face. I think I can have the barrel chambered just as it always would be with a typcial 219DW reamer, the only substitute I would be making is the parent brass for the head size. After case forming, all other dimensions would be the same.

Ive already tried forming 219Wasp from 225 and it works beautifully. I am planning to shoot 90gr bullets and it should outperform a 22 Nosler. 99% of my shooting is prone anyways, but the few folks Ive read posts from say their 225s feed fine from magazines as well, if I ever get a notion to put on the irons for XTC.

If I order a new reamer from say PTG, do I just state "219 Donaldson Wasp Long Version"?
Do I need to specify throat length specifically for a 90gr bullet, or do I give them a sample cartridge?

Also, when I have the barrel chambered, for clarity sake, I may have it marked "225 Donaldson Wasp", just so folks know its something a little different in the case that I am not its eternal owner.

All suggestions, comments, opinions, lectures greatly appreciated here.
This would be the first really odd duck in my inventory...

I suggest that you start looking for dies and use those as you guide for a reamer purchase. I had plenty of 219 zippers , wasps and 225 winchester s ,
The dies now are fairly expensive, form dies were usually used but if you had some time ,you could use other dies to get you close enough to fire form . IIrc 25 win brass was available and easier to get down to 22 cal .
Win made a post 64 225 and parts are scarce but if you can start searching for a follower and mag box , if not you can modify a enfield ( 1914) 303 follower or a siamese mauser follower . This is ONL IF you decide to use std full rimmed brass .
I’ll check for a reamer , I know I had one , somewhere.

The very last co. I'd order that reamer from, is the one you mentioned in your post! If you do order a reamer it will be special made, so have it made with the proper semi rim for 225 brass, not the .30-30 rim. And, before I did anything, I'd make absolute certain that your cases will feed from the mag and follower you have.

I have a set of Red Elliot reamers that I bought from Ferris Pindell if you're interested. I'm pretty sure I have some 30 American brass that has already been formed. I know I have a few boxes of virgin 30 American brass.
I have to pick my wife up at the hospital this morning and tend to her for a while so I may not be immediately reachable.

Built a Donaldson a few years ago after a barrel that was attached to Harvey was given to me by my uncle I built it on a 700 Remington action and I first got dies from Redding and they found that Manson could make the reamer to match the dies parent case used was30-30 still looking for 30 American brass I do have the reamer I would let you use

Since you have dies already, your chamber reamer will have to match up with them. Make some dummy rounds using your dies and send them to JGS or Manson for a reamer. Get your gunsmith on board now to help with specs for the reamer.
