210 Sierra in 308

I am begining to experiment with a 210 Sierra in a 308 for F-Class. The rifle is a long action and the chamber is throated so length is not a problem. OAL is 2.995. My barrel length is 32 inches with a 5C 1:10 twist. I have started my loads with 45.5 grains of IMR-4350. Has anybody got any experience with a 210 grain bullet in a .308 win?

I really do not think you are going to be able to keep this bullet supersonic to 1000 yards with safe pressures. Case capacity is jsut not conducive to this round shooting such a heavy bullet at high enough velocities.

Might look at some of the high BC 155-190 grain bullets instead.

200 grainers are still supersonic at 1000. There should not be that much difference with a 210 grain bullet with a better BC.

Rusty, I had a barrel chambered like yours with the objective of shooting the 210 Berger and 216 Clinch River bullets in the .308. The barrel is a 1:10" twist, 30" long Border and I wasn't able to get the accuracy out of it that I expected, and could get with 190 Bergers). I think those longer bullets needed a 1:9" twist and I gave up on the 210/216 and stuck with the 190s. Your load range is about where I was also.

What about AA2520 powder? It may allow you to get more powder in the case at safe pressures to get a little more umph to help the bullet get there supersonic. Just a thought.

The 600 yard NRA highpower record,200-19x) was set by a shooter using a .308 Winchester, 200 grain Sierras, and 4350 powder. Details may be in the "Precision Shooting Loading Guide". ,It's been a while since I've read it, so am not 100% certain.)
