I purchased a Cooper .20VT for ground squirrels a couple of years ago, not really considering that I would be using it for any animals larger, since I ordinarily use a .22-250 for coyotes. The .22-250 is much heavier, though and I felt that I might use the .20VT for squirrels as well as coyotes, provided the .20 can take down these larger predators. If it just doesn't have the punch with 32 grain Nosler BTs at 3,500 fps at the muzzle, I will take the .22-250 along, even though it is several pounds heavier, but with a bullet weight of 55 grains.
I plan on doing a lot of walking in some wide-open rangeland, hence my wanting to go light. I could take both rifles, but we are taking a motorhome and space is at a premium.
