20MOA ?

Hey guys!

This is my setup Bushnell Elite 6500 4.5-30x50 using a one piece Leupold dovetail base and medium rings, unknown make) on top of a Remington 5r milspec 308.

Is a 20MOA base thicker at the rear or thinner in front? Reason I'm asking is that with my present setup my scope bell
,50mm)is only about 1/4' above the barrel, if its thinner at the front I worry that the bell might touch the barrel. I know I could go with higher rings but wouldn't that defeat the purpose of of getting a lower base.

Would anyone know what I need exactly? Where I live in Canada I dont have access to a lot of accessories, and ordering from the States is not easy. It seems a lot of suppliers dont ship to Canada must be the black plague LOL.

I believe the rear is thicker on my nightforce 20moa base but either way I think it would work! I had to shim my 20moa base because it would not let my rifle zero at 200. The shim was only a couple thousandths thick and changed my zero 8 moa at 200 yards with that said you should still have room! a couple thousandths is not a 1/4 inch!

Any of the +moa bases are thicker at the rear so they will slant down at the front for those long range shots..
A higher set of rings will not effect the height of the base used............

The taper on a 20 MOA base will be less than .050'. Small enough that you will not be able to see it - you'll have to measure it to tell the difference from a flat base. So, if you have .250' of clearance now, you'll be OK. Don't worry about it.

FYI, you can calculate the actual taper with simple math and trig. You were paying attention in school when they taught you that, weren't you??

100 yards = 3600 inches. 20 MOA = 20 inches. So, 20/3600 = .0055' per inch of ring spacing.

I know, 20 MOA is not exactly 20' but let's not nitpick over that, again.
