20BR shooting 40’s with 8208 XBR

Hoping someone has tried this combination. I have other powders but am hoping 8208 will work.
Thanks for the help guys!

Will be interested to hear how 8208 does in the 20br. I shot 30.0 of N540 in my 27 " 20br and while not crazy fast it produced tiny groups right at 4000fps.Both the 40 Berger and 39 BK liked it a lot.

Start 28gr -work up…
hey Gabe, what's the trim length on your 20br. Todd's book shows 1.535 as max length.

I shot mine today and 30.5 varget with 40 vmax's produced a 1/4" size group at about 3900. that will be good enough for squirrels and prairie dogs. I think it can do better once I break into new brass. I'm just using old stuff I had laying around for now.

1.5700” is my 20brai chamber length-
I trim my stuff to 1.567” (.003”) to keep carbon ring @ bay-
Evertime w/ the Guiard- after sizing….

I also use the danzac (WS2 now) on every 20 cal bullet I got- to keep the copper fouling down- not worried about the carbon..
So my loads will be a little more stout compared to the regular 20BR uncoated bullets-

I’ve had the 32gr up in the 4975+ range back last fall..

8208 is a good powder- Benchmark is little faster powder- & plentiful..

Thanks Gabe. What kind of velocity did you get? When did you start hitting pressure signs?
Yes you can loose a primer- way on up there-31+grs.. if /when it spikes b/c of temp..

All I have are Bat SV actions in 20BRAI…so bear that in mind… no real “pressure signs” - bolt lift, flat primers, just the primer laying in the bolt lug/ raceway…;)

I shoot 30.1gr in my 20 PPC and I think I will drop it to 29.6 or whatever tunes but I’ve shot 200 rounds configured like that and it’s pretty hot but it’s serviceable. 4040 FPS
