20br kinda disappointed so far

Well got my 20br done specs are
26 hart 9 twist
Kelby Grizzly Action
Kelby stock

I was hoping to run the 57gr unmissig bullets and went with his recommended twist rate. Well much to my disappointment they go thru the target sideways @ 100. However 40gr vmax shoots in the .2's. Muzzle velocity is not nearly what I expected.
My load was 33.8 grains of big game.

It was about as hot as I would like to run, these are .204 ruger velocities for a lot more money. I am gonna try 55 gr bergers hope they will fly.

Surprised the Vmax are that good, they broke up in at that sort of velocity from my 27 inch Bartlien 1 in 9. At lower velocitys they shot around .3-.4 so perfectly acceptable.

Try the Berger 50s, mine shoots those in the .2/.3 off a bipod and the 39gr SBK for varmints. A far better bullet than the Vmax IMHO in this weight caliber. Ironically in my 6mm and 17 my first choices are both Vmax.

No need to drive them at blistering velocity, difference in drop drift at 3500 and 3800 is not a lot.

Yes Berger recommends an 8 twist but I did a lot of research before I ordered my barrel and decided on a 9. And I am happy to report that the 55gr bergers shoot very well. I did some chrono work today and 33.4 grains yielded 3740fps without any pressure. I will get out the oehler tomorrow and verify velocity sometimes my little beta chrony is over optimistic.

Anyone else feel the 39 blitzing is superior. Anyone push them hard in a 9 twist. I plan on pushing them as hard as I can with acceptable accuracy 3900 ish if possible.

CZ, take a look at 31.5gr / H4895 pushing those 40gr Vmax's my 28" PacNor 14tw has no problem keeping them consistently in the low .2's.

My 20 PPC launches 40 gr V-Max out of a MAB (Australian) 1-10 at 3900 and will put 5 into .2 at 100m.
I have had a play with the Berger 50`s but I have not really put much effort in I might try in the early spring when there should be a few more targets about.

I am pretty happy now. 55gr bergers and RL 17 got me the speed I was after and it shoots little bitty groups. Should be fun Pdogin.

I am a big fan of the 39 gr BlitzKings!

I am getting 3,850 fps out of my 204 Ruger using H4895 with great accuracy and no pressure signs even on hot days.

Great on prairie dogs out to about 450 / 500 yards. After that distance it still kills them but it is not as splat-tacular.
