208 A-Max and 308 Win

It's raining and turning to iceso I'm holed up in the house and thinking, I did some searching but didn't really find anything to solid. I'm thinking about shooting a 208 A-Max in a 308 Win and was curious if I could get to 2500fps with a 26" barrel without so much pressure to mess my brass up or action for that matter! I would be feeding from a AI mag so the COL would have to be around 2.9".

Anyone play with the 208's in a 308 Win? Later,

Thanks a mess for that link! I have been using RL-15 with 168's forever might just have to order me some of the 208's and give it a shot. Most of the guys only had barrel's of 22" I have a 26" tube so ya never know but it sure looks like I should have no issue with launching a 208 at 2500fps and could possibly get a few more fps without getting stupid. My friend is getting 2600 fps from an 18" barrel with RL-17. Just work up slowly, the velocities are pretty amazing with those 208s!

With the RL-15 with 168's what kind of accuracy did you get?
my best is with 39.5 grs of imr3031

It looks to me like you would be well north of 75 ksi at that velocity. I just checked my records and my 30" .308 gets ~2640 with a top load of RL17 and the 208.

I saw him work up to max with the RL-17, and back down a bit. His cases look fine. On the other hand, Quickload seems to overestimate RL-17 pressures.

RL-15 and 168's would shoot fine from my rifle, I was pushing them pretty hard or at least I thought I was and they shot very well. I need to get Quickload so I can play with my loads prior to burning powder! Later,

I've shot plenty of deer with my 284 Win and 162 A-Max and well it's pretty sad how much meat they blow up but dude they will flat out smoke these deer! I actually like the SMK better it doesn't mess up as much so I get to eat more. Later,
