. 204 Ruger resizing issue

I'm reloading .204 Ruger for a DPMS upper receiver using RCBS AR dies. My issue is that once the brass has been fired it doesn't seem to fit in the resizing die. I can force it in of course, but then it gets stuck. I've used RCBS case lube, Frankford Arsenal case lube and 3 in 1 oil as a substitute case lube. They all produce the same results. I'm using the #10 shell holder and it rips right through the rim of the case. It seems as if my DPMS upper has a larger than normal chamber and the die won't accept it. This issue is the same on both Hornady and R-P brass. I plan on trying Imperial case lube once I get a hold of some but it's getting pretty frustrated. Any advice would be appreciated.

Sounds like you have an oversized chamber, take some measurements on the fired brass and compare them to the unfired to see how much the brass is expanding. Who chambered the barrel?

I have 3 204's and don't keep brass separate. Sometimes I have to size the case about half way, raise the ram and turn the case 180* and finish sizing. Its is a pain in the azz but it works for me.

jepp2 is right on the money. I and 2 of my friends have DPMS varmint uppers in 204 and we use standard Redding resize dies with absolutely no problem. Try a standard die before before anything else. Never use a small base die unless it's proven that you need it.

Standard dies for my 204 upper. I have never had an issue, even using Hornady spray lube. Good luck.

Pretty sure the RCBS AR dies are a small base sizing die. You may not need it. I have never had to run any of my .204 or 223 brass through a small base die to get them to run in my AR's.

That's very good information to have... Thank you!

Are RCBS AR dies actually small base dies? Maybe this particular die is attempting to size your fired .204 case
down too much. Have you tried a Redding F/L die? I just sized .204 from a bolt Sako + a DPMS 204 AR +
cases from both rifles were easily sized in the 204 RCBS die. I could tell a difference in the brass fired in the AR (bit longer + bit bigger chamber) vs the Sako, but both were easy to size in a RCBS. Can you post a pic of how far in the die
your fired brass gets before its stuck? Try Imperial lube also... good luck
