204 factory ammo

just got a new ruger 204. got some hornady factory ammo. it shot all over the place. put it though a corny and it averaged 405 ft slow. called hornady with lot# and they where nice for awhile and then they said nothing wrong with that lot! when i tryed to talk to them somemore they said i was wrong and hung up. well i reloaded the brass with lh322 and 32gr bullets and got 4000ft with no problem and rifle shoots them great. wont ever buy hornady ammo again!!!

I guess we all have different experiences. I've been shooting the Hornady 32 grain V-max for several years and from 2 different rifles. I have been amazed at the consistency of this ammo from several different lots. I'm sorry you had a bad experience with it. That's an uncommon thing, I would think n

I dunno. I bought a never-seen-before box of 50 Hornady 40 grain V-Max a while back, mainly because they were cheap. Tried some out and they shot scary-dangerous flyers. Dug out some of the same type I'd bought before started handloading for my .204s, and keep around to use up for fouling shots; 4 went a little over an inch.
At any rate, sounds like the Hornady rep could use an, uh, attitude adjustment, with a follow-up at the dentist's office.

Just a question as they are good guys.

Was the factory original ammo 40 grains?
Is your 204 Ruger 1-12 twist?
Just trying to help.

Even as a handloader, I am a faithful user of the 32 gr. V-Max Hornady factory load.

I tried the 40 grain load and it was so-so.

I loaded and shot the 32 gr. v-max back in those Hornady cases and my groups went from mid- three tenths to the mid two tenths but velocity went down so it was a trade off compared to the factory loads.

Hope you get your .204 running well ........ they are a PRIZE!!

Best regards
