2022 Super Shoot. The last one at Kelbly’s

I haven’t shot in one since the 90’s when I got away from short range. I used to shoot both the Nationals and the Super Shoot. Hoping to make it to this last one and I’m having a 10.5 pound rifle put together for it right now.

Dave.

Dave,
I went looking for the match dates because I thought it would be fun, didn’t realize at the time it is scheduled to be the last Super-Shoot. Dan Dowling and a few of the other shooters of the same vintage were chatting about the shoot at Kelbly’s, so I decided to look it up. I just started shooting short range a few years ago, I am no where near the top 10% at the local matches so really a participant and not a competitor, but am pondering the 24 hour road trip “just because”.

There is an ongoing rumor that a prominent barrel manufacturer in Texas is, or was planning a large shooting facility somewhere in North Texas, and part of the yearly attractions would be a Super Shoot style Match.
If it ever did come to fruition, I would hope it would be based on a Format more in line with The Tack Driver, taking the basics of both Score and Group shooting at a long enough distance to include a wider variety of Rifles and chamberings.

I never got to attend a Super Shoot. I never was dedicated to shooting enough to put my Business aside long enough to take the time to attend. I look back and wish I had.

Funny, I was just reading a post from Jim Kelbly that states the Super-shoot would be moving. I will try to find the information and post it here.

Found it

It has been a long run since we started hosting the Firearms Industry Super Shoot in 1976 and we want to thank everyone for your support over the years. We want to make the transition to a new venue being run by Wade Hull of Shilen Rifles as smooth as possible. I expect that Wade will do a outstanding job and fresh new management should give Super Shoot new life. I will remain as consultant to Wade for several years, but after 2020 Super Shoot, it will be Wade as Managing Director of the Super Shoot.

Best Regards

Jim

Can anyone break down the format and other pertinents? I reached out to Kelbly's and they said 4 days for $260. 10.5 and 13.5 guns. I only have 17lb guns (and 30br) but he said that you can still shoot, just not be included in the official scoring which is ok because it's more of a for fun shoot for me anyways.

Assuming it's group only? Warmup plus 5 matches (5 shots each). Is there a place to reload onsite? I'm in NE Ohio so it's not too inconvenient to drive back and forth.
