2019 Orange Blossom Regional ATC

USAF Shooting Team

Returned back to the frozen tundra on Monday after shooting in the Orange Blossom Regional. The event was well run and served as a great training camp for the USAF team, something the team hasn't had since 2010. A special thanks to everyone that ran the matches. They were very accommodating and even allowing us to stay late a couple days to get more practice in. The team had seven shooters compete in the regional and six in the EIC "leg" match. Each day began at 0800 and ended around 1500 with five relays and 84 shooters. The AMU, All Guard, and Marine teams also attended.

I suffered a few setbacks the the first few days, but a new scope mount that moved my scope forward solved my issues. I managed to get my act together in the individual matches and and shot 755, 771, and 770, coming close to my personal best of 772. The rest of the team shot well, including Maj. Sovern who shot his first master score. He also placed third in the combined Marksman/Expert class.

The EIC match had a total of 55 shooters, 5 match rifle and 50 service rifle. We had 28 non-distinguished so they were able to award one silver and two bronzes. Maj Sovern earned a bronze achievement pin with a 459-10x. SA Ohlinger earned a silver pin with a 466-9x. Maj Abbe and MSgt Stern earned a gold pin with 477-10x and 478-13x respectively. I shot a 490-13x to take top non-distinguished earning the silver award (8 points) and a gold pin.

This was an awesome match to be a part of. The weather was great and the range had electronic targets, so pulling pits was not required. The team has received an invite to next year's matches, so we will most likely be back again next year.

Full match results can be found here for those that are curious.

Good shooting! I'm getting ready to head down tomorrow for the F class matches. With all the other Military teams down there, I may have to get a rifle ready and shoot the ATC matches next year!

Ryan,

It was nice to shoot with you again. I’m impressed by your progress since shooting with you last summer at Atterbury. Congrats on the leg points.

I’ve shot the OBR for over 20 years. Nice range, great people, you’ll have a ball.
I agree! Plus it's hard to complain when you're shooting 600 on AstroTurf in the shade, lol

Ryan,

Thanks Ben, my goal is to go distinguished this year and this put me at 14 points, so half way there. Hope to see you at Perry.

It was great shooting with y’all in the XTC team matches. I had to leave before the individual matches.

I’m back for the mid range events, and they have been quite challenging so far with a wicked fishtailing wind. Today we may get some rain just for variety.

But as always, it’s an absolute blast at this match. Looking forward to shooting with you all again.
