I've started loading early this year. Normally wait until April or so but got an early jump on it thanks to inclement weather.
I've a got Savage PTA in 6 BR with about 1500 rds thru it. I have a new Shilen / Savage replacement barrel and was thinking what happens if the barrel goes out while out west??
So, I have the barrel, I have a new scope, so all I need are new Savage PTA, rings

and a stock. I ordered a new action and it arrived today.
Now off to my friend who has the head space gauges and nut wrench.. So,
excited..
What about you guys? Anything new?

Nothing new this year as I spent about 3 years worth last year on one based off the PTA. Mark if I could recommend only one thing for your PTA it would be a Std EGW base and Burris XTR Signature rings. When dialing the shot you want the turret to do what it is supposed to do by the marks on the knob.

Still running my Savage .223 w/its 4th barrel on it.
Already have 4500 rounds loaded to go.

My old 22-250 is wearing a new Krieger barrel for this year's trip. The old one was a tiny bit burned out .

Iowa Fox, Appreciate the suggestion about Burris.. i've good things about them..
I've been using Warne QD's on all my rifles with excellent results..
It is great feature to remove the scope to clean or service my rifle(s). And reinstall goes right back to "0."
Also, I told Kinny I would do this. Kinneys Shooting Supply in Elon, NC stocks them and has fair pricing.. The Warne website does not give good information ( dimensions on bases and base extensions) and Kinneys can..

Another 20 Practical. 4th one built by 2 shooters. New Savage 12 FV as the donor rifle in .223. Shillen select match grade barrel. Topped this one with a Bushnell Elite 4200 in 6-24 x 40 w/ mil-dot. I have grown fond of these rifles. Happy shooting everyone.
