2015 POWDER PRICES

I inherited these from my late uncle, not sure of the year but I would guess somewhere around 1970. About $2.50 a pound back then.

What is it about those powders that make them not comply with REACH? It doesn’t seem like they would be much different than many of the powders that you can get.

I could Google the regs, etc. but so can anyone. I found a list of Powders that also gives the ingredient that seems to be in breach of the regulation and so a little more helpful and part of a longer discussion here.

For our newer and/or younger shooters who have heard all the rants about how expensive powder has become, I thought I'd list out what a few powders were running in 2015. I was just digging though my bookcase looking around and found a 2015 catalog from Sinclaire International. Those who knew them - they were not the most inexpensive guys around - and these weren't sale or discounted prices. I'll only list 1 lb. bottles to make this quick. I got my 2026 prices from Powder Valley, usually being among the lower priced folks out there.

I found this interesting. VV powders have only gone up about 32% in ELEVEN years! What used to cost almost twice as much is now one of the lease expensive rifle powders. And it is imported!

Pretty much everything else doubled or just a bit more - EXCEPT the alliant Reloader powders - at a roughly 170% increase!!!

Even the most reasonable companies raised prices about 6 1/2% annually, on average, for that 11-year period.

Not long before 2015 powder was often less than $20 a pound.

Quick google search says the national average for gas in 2015 was $2.43. National average on April 29th 2026 was $4.23.
