2014 Eastern Canada F-Class Championships - Connaught Range, Ottawa

Just wanted to let you all know that the event website http://www.easternfclass.ca has been updated with some preliminary dates/course of fire. We have had some interest expressed in offering more team shoots next year so we are contemplating having a morning dedicated to that before the final.

As organizers we wanted to take additional steps in supporting/enticing new shooters by continuing to offer a "Top New Shooter" award in the regular divisions (which last year was generously donated by Price Enterprises) and also offering a division for some form of Factory class. We would likely need a minimum number of competitors to make this practical, but if there is enough interest we will definitely offer it - further details TBD.

This shoot is a great opportunity to come and learn the range that will be hosting the 2017 FCWC. If you've got any questions/concerns/suggestions please post here or send me a PM.

Hope to see you up here next summer!

Cheers,

Scott

Hi Scott, I can't get get that link to work. Do U have a date for the 2014 eastern Canada F-class
champs.? Hope to see a lot of good frends up there :) Thanks, John R Perkins Jr

John: I fixed the link, so you should be able to see the site now. Tentative dates are June 28th-30th although we need to confirm that in the new year with the base (military range). We'd love to have you up, so just let me know if we can do anything to assist.

Jim: I figured we'd get the word out early, so you could build us in to your match calendar. Hope you can make it this time!

Cheers,

Scott

I remember a time when the mounds at Connaught were "filled" with a great number of our American friends
and shooting shoulder to shoulder alongside them.
It sure will be nice to welcome back old friends and as well welcome "new to Connaught" American competitors.
Now that we have established stand alone F Class matches such as the Eastern Regionals AND the Canadian F Class Nationals,
strictly focused on F Class requirements, the competition's attendance has grown. We just need to "advertise" it more
to Y'all south of the border.
Since the next FCWC will be on the Connaught Ranges in 2017,these are some great matches to attend and get familiarized
with the Connaught "peculiarities" and experience some Canadian hospitality.
Scott...maybe you can post a couple of pics (some of the better ones with sunshine and calm winds) to boost the image ...
FWIW...since this a a CF Base we do have to conform to Range Template rules, but on a better note,if the barracks are available
at that time, a great savings in accommodations can be had.
Also planning this far in advance will ensure that "all pertinent paperwork" is completed and in order to cross the border.
Hope to see a lot of you make it up in 2014.
Regards
Gord O

That is all I need to hear, it's on my schedule for '14. Leo d'Amour comes down and shoots with us in Albany NY. He is a great friend and gentleman competitor. I am looking forward to heading north next year.

Al,

Entry fees for last year were right around $250, with a little extra for our national association for range access and insurance ($305 total IIRC). If you stay on base you'd probably be well under $500 for the shoot with accommodations and meals. That includes paid target markers.

One of the comments I heard quite frequently down in Raton was the belief that it was very expensive to shoot in Canada, and I'm hoping we can disprove that over the next couple of years. It really is quite affordable and we are trying to provide great value for our shooters. To top it off Connaught is truly a World Class range.

If you've got any further questions please just let me know.

Cheers,

Scott

Just a quick update to let you all know that our competition dates have been confirmed for Jun 28th-30th at Connaught Ranges in Ottawa. Lots more info on the event website www.easternfclass.ca, and we will try to have the entry form finalized and available in the coming weeks. If you've got any questions please feel free to post here or send me a PM.

I was asked this question by a couple of my US friends and thought others might like to know as well.

How to enter Canada with a Rifle

For non residents (US residence) coming to shoot in Canada you will need to fill out the form in triplicate, and show up at the border with your firearm/s, ammunition, and the unsigned forms. A customs agent will witness the signing of the forms, and you will be charge $25, The form is good for 60 days from the time of declaration. There is no requirement to get pre-approval simply arrive at the border and show the customs officer you documentation

I have attached a link directly for the Easterns which direct you straight to the form
http://www.easternfclass.ca/entry-form/form-for-us-shooters

I have also attached the official government link from the RCMP (Royal Canadian Mounted Police Website) if you wish to review the requirements in their entirety

http://www.rcmp-grc.gc.ca/cfp-pcaf/information/visit/index-eng.htm

Declare firearms in writing to a customs officer at the point of entry to Canada, using the Non-Resident Firearm Declaration (form RCMP 5589 / CAFC 909).
If there are more than three firearms, a Non-Resident Firearm Declaration Continuation Sheet (form RCMP 5590 / CAFC 910) should be added.

The declaration form should be filled out prior to arrival at the point of entry, in order to save time. However, it should not be signed before arriving at the entry point, as a Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) customs officer must witness the signature.

A confirmed declaration costs a flat fee of $25, regardless of the number of firearms listed on it. It is valid only for the person who signs it and only for those firearms listed on the declaration.

Once the declaration has been confirmed by the CBSA customs officer, it acts as a licence for the owner and it is valid for 60 days. The declaration can be renewed for free, providing it is renewed before it expires, by contacting the Chief Firearms Officer (call 1-800-731-4000) of the relevant province or territory.

check with the Canadian Border Services if you have any additional questions

hope to see everyone there

Trevor

P.S.

With the Canadian currency falling shooting and staying in the Canada just got 10% cheaper then last year
Jan 30th currency rate 1.00cdn is 89.68us

One note about going to Canada. If you have ever been convicted of DUI the Government of Canada considers you in the same class as, if not actually, a felon. I know two people who have run into major border crossing problems over this.

I don't know how far back those records go when they run the search, but if you show up declaring firearms your record will be run. If you've got anything back there in the past that could pop up on a FBI/Justice records search you may want to look into getting it resolved before you go. I understand that there is a fee that can be paid (isn't there always) that can absolve you of your past indiscretions, though considering Ottawa's view of guns it may still be a problem if you're declaring firearms.

The point is if you have anything like that in your background you really should look into it before you show up at the bridge. Otherwise you may be in for a less than pleasant experience.

We are now accepting registrations for this year's event. You can download the entry form from the event website www.easternfclass.ca. Please note that we are limited to 54 shooters and it's on a first come first served basis.

If you've got any questions please post them here or send me a PM.

Cheers,

Scott

As a side note for any of our southern friends who want to visit us for the first time……
MOST of us here speak fluent American so there shouldn't be too much of a language barrier.
(Small difference…we pronounce X as V)
And if you'd like to learn how to speak Canadian,,,,,lessons are free at the "old Mess" over a cold one
