Here is a not-so-quick answer to “What’s a postal tournament?”
For a complete set of rules and entry form go to:
BenchTalk.com and click on the Postal button.

The Postal Tournament is a 100 yd score rifle competition. You send us $65 and we mail you 25 targets (IBS 100 yd). There are 5 bulls plus 1 sighter on each target. Each target is a match. There are 5 matches per agg. 5 aggs for the tournament. Side note = if you are not sure you want to do the whole tournament, but still want to try it, you can pay 17.50 per agg.

There are 4 classes. VFS, Hunter/Varmint Hunter(6X), Modified Factory, and Factory. You do not have to have Benchrest type equipment – just shoot what you got.

Each agg is due back by a certain date. You can pick when you shoot your targets.
Targets for Agg One must be postmarked no later than Tue April 24, 2012.
Targets for Agg Two must be postmarked no later than Tue May 29, 2012.
Targets for Agg Three must be postmarked no later than Tue July 3, 2012.
Targets for Agg Four must be postmarked no later than Tue Aug 14, 2012.
Targets for Agg Five must be postmarked no later then Tue Sept 18, 2012.

“What happens to my $65 that I pay in?” What you pay in goes back out (targets, certificates, prize money, awards, postage, etc). Steve and I do not keep the money.

Speaking of that: There are lots of great prizes and awards. To be eligible for prizes, you must pre-pay by March 1st. In terms of awards - we try and do something different each year so, as of now, we really don’t know what the awards will be. Last year we did certificates, plaques, and badges. We will figure that out and let you know before the 1st agg is due. There will be prize money given back to top finishers in each class. Last year, we paid back roughly $3,500 in prize money.

Benefits of shooting the postal.
1. The “excitement” of competition without having to drive hundreds of miles
2. If you prepay – you could win some awesome prizes
3. Gets you in contact with some of the best shooters in the nation.
4. Chance to win money 5 times per tournament
5. You get to truly find out what you and your rifle can do.
6. It is a great learning “springboard”
7. Some “seasoned” competitors use it for practice for the larger tournaments.
8. It’s just plain FUN ( even more fun when you get a shooting buddy and shoot
at the same time)

I have some (nine) Remington 40XB rifles. All but two are as they came from the Custom Shop. Of the ones that are not, one has a Fajen thumbhole stock on it and one has a Timney trigger replacing the original trigger. What classifications are these rifles OK for?

POSTAL MATCH RULES FOR 2012
Last Updated: 1-5-12
Classes
Varmint for Score. (VFS) These are benchrest rifles that weigh no more than 13.5 pounds. Forearms can measure no more than 3 inches wide. These rifles must meet all other IBS/NBRSA guidelines.
Hunter/Varmint Hunter Class (6X). These rifles can weigh no more than 10 lbs. Forend is no wider than 2 1/2”. Scope limited to 6 power. 6X rifles must meet all other IBS /NBRSA guidelines.
Modified Factory (MF). MF rifles fall between VFS and Factory guidelines. These are rifles that have had a new or custom barrel installed and/or do not have a factory chambering. Factory rifles that have a custom trigger installed fall into this class. Rifles that are produced by manufacturers with the primary intent of target use or competition will be considered MF. If the manufacturer describes the product as Semi-Custom it will be considered MF for our purposes. Any rifle that comes out of a factory custom shop will be classified as a MF rifle.
Factory Class (F). Rifles that are essentially rifles as they came from the manufacturer or are factory produced. These rifles can have very minor modifications from their "out of the box" configuration. The barrel must be a factory barrel and must be chambered in a caliber as it came from the factory, re-chambering will not be allowed. The rifle must be able to accept more than 2 rounds, exceptions: break opens and falling blocks Actions can be bedded and barrels floated. The factory trigger can only be modified to improve trigger pull and creep. We want this class to be the "spirit" of factory. If you have any questions about whether your rifle fits the Factory Class or the Modified Factory Class please call or e-mail Steve. Thank you for your understanding.

dmickey,

I copied and pasted our class stipulations. As I read the rules, (Steve is the one who makes all the final decisions on which rifle goes in which class) all of your rifles would be in Modified Factory.

Thanks for the interest.

Stanley

Deadline is fast approaching for this year's Postal Drawing. Deadline is March 1st. This is a great way to compete without having to drive hundreds of miles. If you have any questions - please feel free to ask. Thanks for your time
