200gr. Hybrid loads for the .308?

I have collected some 200gr Hybrids for the F/TR rig this year. Fireforming neck turned Lapua Palma brass, seated to the lands, 42-43 grains of Varget seems to shoot well. Too snowy and windy for ladder tests yet. Anyone else have any suggested loads?

Sounds like you're in the ballpark with that Varget load. I shot the 200s in several matches with Power Pro 2000MR with good results also. 46.3 gr. was giving me 2650 to 2675 ftps with Lapua large primer brass and BR2s. They were jumping .010.

You are right in the ballpark Scott. They can be a little touchy about pressure at the node you are working. Be careful about carbon rings in the throat. It will blow primers!

I have shot the 200 since its inception. I've tried the 215, but came back to the 200.

Many people are surprised by the little 308 throwing heavy bullets. On paper, it looks like a difficult problem, but in reality, it works just fine.

Prior to the early 90's, the 308 with 200gr SMK's was the "go-to load" for the 600yd stage of the NMC out of a 10" twist barrel and most of those folks were using 24" barrels (some even shorter). A healthy charge of IMR4064 was used by quite a few people.

Even with 30-32" barrels, I have to wonder if you exceed to point of diminishing return beyond 200gr booolit weight in a 308 due to case capacity?

I just got my rifle back from the guys over at Predator; I just had a 34" barrel cut down a bit. Gains or not depends on powder. I did find that with Varget you run out of powder before you run out of barrel. The 34 was slower than a 30 in side by side shooting.
