So the Wilson seater die that I got is too tight in the neck area to be used without turning. Is there another die that works without turning necks? This is with 221 Lapua brass.

Thanks.

Rich

I use a Vickerman In line seater for all my cartridges. They are especially easy on the small ones

My 20 Vartarg has a 234 neck and my loaded Lapua measures 231-232. And works ok with my Wilson inline seater. I opened the back end of my Vartarg up from Todd Kindlers original to match Lapua’s larger 0.200 reference dimension and some of my cases stick at that point in the die. All this to ask: how big are your necks?

A Hornady 20 cal seater with micrometer top worked great for me and would likely avoid your issues, if you’re seating on a press.

I'm betting you could get a machine shop or smith with a mill to ream the thick a few thou, or even wilson might.
Indicated in on a lathe with a .236 chucking reamer im thinking would take care of you issue.

I'm using a Redding Comp Seater for my 20VT with no issues. My Cooper M38 also has a chamber neck ID of .234", as does my Cooper M21 204R. I'm using turned brass from R-P, Nosler and Lapua.

Confused about exactly what ID my rifles had, a chamber cast with Cero-Safe told the story......234"

I'd contact Wilson to see if they could correct that die for you.

Get a comp 221 Fireball seater, Redding or Forster, pull the sliding sleeve out have it reamed with the same reamer that cut your chamber and presto you now have a 20VT comp seater die. Those sliding sleeves aren't hardened and cut easy. I like the Redding comp seater but the Forster comp seater is very good and cost quite a bit less.

I'm wondering if I can lap it so that it works.

I thought this was going to be easier to do. It sounds like there would be a market for a 'no-turn' seating die. When will the die folks catch up to the current reamers...

I think it would just be easier to turn the necks. Ain't nothing easy anymore, if it ever was...

Thanks to all.

Don't give up on having the neck opened up, call Wilson Monday mourning is were I would start.

If this is your first time using a inline die once you start you won't wanna go back to other seaters
Not my first by quite a few, but never had this happen before. Had a few at the .200, but not the neck. Frustrating.

My first dasher die stuck in the neck.. I sent it back to Wilson w/ FIRED brass..yeah.. it fit anyway I wanted to seat a bullet then- neck sized or FL sized..

I think I'll wait to get the barrel in hand and check the neck dia on it. Then I'll make the call on the die. If I have to neck turn, then sending the die off may become unnecessary.

Thanks again for all the input.

FWIW, looks like my Wilson seater has a .232 neck. One dummy round I had was .2315 and it would go, but it needed a bit of help, so I feel comfortable in measuring the die correctly. That was a piece with the thinnest neck I could find out of the bunch, and was with a skinny BIB boattail. The 32 Berger flat base won't work at all. Pin gage, if you're wondering, with an oh so delicate touch.......... Now to go stand by the mailbox to await the barrel...
