20 valkyrie in ar?

I'm a little bit surprised I can't find anything on this so it makes me think its a dumb idea since there isn't any info on it. Is there any reason why this would be problematic to neck the valkyrie down to a 20 cal and run it in a ar 15. I have a good stash of 55 gr. bergers I use in my 20 br and would love to get those shooting good out of a ar 15 also.

Just a guess, but since the 204 Ruger is a 222 Remington Magnum derivative, it comes very close to the 224 Valkryrie which is based on the 6.8 SPC.

So I don't think it is a dumb idea, it is probably just so close the 204 Ruger that it is a push when you can just buy 204 Ruger brass all ready to go.

I have often wondered about this against necking down a 22 Nosler case to accept a 55 grain 20 cal bullet?

Not a dumb idea at all. Years ago I necked down the 6.8 to .20 and bumped the shoulder back at .100, .125 and .150 increments. The Valk is basically a .100 short SPC body. Also Roy Winnet came up with his PDK (20 PDK) series of cartridges that are based on the shortened 6.8 case. As soon as 224 Valk brass hit the shelves I necked it down and did the same with the 22 Nosler.
Here’s a 20 Valkyrie with a 55 grain 15 VLD seated above the neck shoulder junction. The 20 Valkyrie has a powder capacity not far from the 20 PPC.

I believe the reason you don't see much is because there is already a couple proven .20 cal cartridges for the AR15, 20 Practical and 20 Tactical. Both are based on a 223 case so there are no issues with magazine feeding, and reamer and dies are available.

The 55 will stabilize quite nicely from a 1-9 twist in a 20 br I would think that 8.5 would handle them nicely.
A 9tw may stabilize them to shoot well enough but it will most likely be at a reduced BC with a 9tw.

With no change in shoulder angle/dimensions it should feed 100% as well as the standard Valk. My buddy just completed a .20 Valk build but decided to go with 40 grain bullets. As others have said, the 55’s thrive with a bit more horsepower than the Valkyrie offers.

I agree. If you plan on shooting the 55's you almost need to build a specialty gun that is committed to them with enough case capacity and fast enough twist. IMO if you plan on shooting the 55's you need at least the case capacity of a BR or one of the "Improved" versions of the BR case or neck down the 22-250 to 20 cal.

The down side to that is when you go that route you're pretty well committed to shooting those bullets because I'm not sure you the regular 32-40 grainers will survive the launch. That's why I built two different 20's. A regular version w/11tw for 32-40gr bullets and a large case capacity 8tw one that is dedicated to shooting the high BC 55's.
