20 Practical on a Savage Model 12

In regard to my other posts the plan is to do a barrel setback and rechamber to 20P and do this somewhat economically. I'm already wondering if I should just do an aftermarket barrel. Then the next question comes to mind, who makes a top shelf trigger adjustable down to 1lb or less for the Savage Model 12 besides for RifleBasix.

My barrels are $319. Just fyi.

I installed an mcarbo spring that was advertised for the non accutrigger. I put the lightest spring that comes in the kit. Never measured pull weight but its under 2lbs for sure.

Click on Main Site top of the page. See left hand column . Scroll down and the is info on the 20 caliber cartridges. Worked for my 20 Practical. For get the 12 tw. many won't stabilize the 40 gr bullets.

Seriously considering pre-fit barrel now. I just do not want to put a ton of money into this production rifle. I just reached out to James @ NSS. We'll see what he has to say???

So, this is a new, unfired rifle. What might the factory LRPV spec'd 204-barrel fetch for a price?

For the new takeoff factory barrel I’d say ive seen them go for 200-250.

I too would go the prefit route over just getting that one rechambered. Especially if you’d be paying someone to do it. Take that money you woulda spent plus the money for selling the og barrel and it would damn near cover the prefit cost.
One of Brads barrels for $319 or a Criterion from James is hard to beat.

That much huh? Was thinking Shilen from James?

Yeah. low mileage used ones sell on here all the time for 150-200 depending on caliber. An unfired one has to be worth a little more.

I have all 3 brands(actually all 4 including factory barrels) and like them all. Just got a Shilen 22/250 from James for a friends gun and it shoots outstanding. You won’t go wrong with one. Shilen is just a little more money than the Criterion and UBR and you said you were building economically. All 3 are great barrels

Just placed the order with James at NSS. We went with the Criterion Match. He wasn't even taking orders for Shilen, as they are possibly out past a year on both 17teens and 20's. I switched up last minute on twist and went with an 11. Best of both worlds, right? He was able to give me a .233 neck, and zero free bore as wanted too! Delivery time 12 to 22 weeks. No big deal.

Thanks guys!!! :D

The 11T will allow you to shoot the 39 And 40 grain bullets. Now that they no longer are Unobtanium, look into running 39 gr SBKs with H4895, BR4s. Scary accurate and very fast. About 25 grains gets me ~3850 fps out of a 26" 3R 11T.
