20 Practical barrel twist

Just wondering what other guys are using. I just ordered 1-10 to shoot the 39gr Blitzkings. I figure that they are guaranteed to stabilize in that twist. Also what velocities are you seeing?

Mine is a 1:12 twist Lilja. It has never seen a 39 grain thru it, but do shoot the 39's in my .204 at about 3840 fps.

The 32's I shoot in the Practical run around 4140 fps. You can see it here:
20 Practical target/load

The actual load is the one written on the target. The one at the top of the page was a typo.

I shoot a Pac-Nor 1/11 twist barrel 24 inches long with 24 grains of Reloader 10 x and a 39 grain Sierra Blizking. My velocity runs 3850. I also use Lapua brass and a federal 205 primer. I haven,t had any problems with bullets not stabilizing. I have a friend that shoots a 20 ppc 100 short. And has shot ground hogs out too 400 yards with his. I have shot hogs to 300 yards with mine and have not had any problems. So a 1/10 twist should work just fine.

Thanks John

My two 20 calibers...are both 12 twist/3 groove Pac Nor barrels...20 Vartarg & 20 Practical...both shoot 39 SBK & 40 V max very well and very fast...but do not like the 40 NBT...

I had Steve Satern make up a 1:9 twist barrel for my 204 Ruger AR15 upper. A friend of mine did the same in a left hand version. The 39/40/50gr bullets all shoot great, but it blows up the 32gr Bal-tips about 10% of the time, usually within 50yards of the barrel, and that's with factory loads. The lighter Sierra BlitzKings are just fine though.

I'm starting to think the 9 twist might be a bit fast and the 10 would be a bit perfect for all around use.
