20 ppc barrel life?

How many rounds do u get before you start to see a cut rifled barrel loose its "competitive" edge? I'm refurring to the short range bench rest edge. 20ppc is a hot lil round

Most of the guys I shoot with say they have not seen many 6PPCs shoot well with over 2000 rnds, I think that the 20ppc would be much less. 22 PPCs are usually made 100 or 125 thou short. Will your 20 PPC be short or full length?

I will start with the 100 short first and work from there. I do believe if the correct case capacity is found that the 20 can make a run in the short range br crowd. I'm in need if some barrel blanks if anybody knows where they can be found

Check out southernprecision.com they have some mullerworks barrels, I heave heats good things about them

I was thinking of building one of these a while back and called Bartlein. At the time they were out but they called me not too long ago and said now they had some. Might want to check with them now maybe.

The competitors polled over at BRC see little more than 900 before passing their peak in performance.
Much because of their fast shot rate, very high/competitive pressure loads, and ability to spot the exact point to move on barrel-wise.
This, with N133 being both fast AND cool (Lucky for 6PPC shooters).

But with a 20PPC you'll likely need an even faster powder, which will not be as cool burning.
If you shoot competitively with it, as done in 6PPC, the resulting barrel life won't be viable to sustain anything.
I don't shoot either, or compete. It's just my prediction.

I will be shooting some kind if 20 Cal I. Short range br in the near future just not sure what case I'm going to use yet. IV thought about thus for sometime now and always wounded why the 20 Cal hasn't made a run in that game. Maybe its the lack of good quality bullets. Maybe great barrels are harder to make in 20 Cal, maybe some just don't want to change. But I will never quit looking for somthkng better in cartridge wise or looking for the edge over the rest of the folks on the firing line. Just the way it is.

Personally I think you need a smaller case than the PPC. Its a pretty big case for a 20. I bet something closer to the vartarg will be better for both accuracy and barrel life. Maybe a ppc .200 short?

I have a extra panda action that has ppc bolt face so I'll probly stay with that bolt face, just not.sure what case I'm going to use. I'm thinking n135 should work well for 40gr bullets in a ppc. I want to stay rt around 4000 fps is possible. The 20beggs maybe capable if that velocity also, but not sure.
