20 MOA Bases

I am putting together a .260 Rem tactical rifle on a Remington action. I have a 1 in 8 barrel and plan to shoot a 142gr bullet.I would like to shoot 600 yds and beyond on occasion so I am considering a 20 moa base.

The other day a ran into someone who said that with the 20 moa base he could not get low enough for a hundred yard zero. Could this be true? Should I be looking at a different moa or possible a standard base?

Depending on the specific scope, i.e. if it has limited internal elevation, then of course a 20 MOA forward taper could be a problem. Or, use a Leupold Mark 4 16x, which has 140 MOA of elevation adjustment, and the tapered base won't cause any difficulties.

Your question has been asked MANY times before. The search function is a valuable resource. Suggest you learn to embrace it.

I have a 20 moa base on mine and its fine i used a med height rings.you might have some trouble with the extra high rings....

I put a 20 moa BAT base on a SV BAT with high Burris Signature rings that had a 1.250 barrel on it and the 100 yard zero was right close to the bottom, so I went back to a standard flat base seeing I rarely shoot varmints beyond 600 yards...

I wouldn't bother with a 20moa base unless you are going to try and shoot past 1500yard. the one bad thing about them is that I've yet to figure out how to compensat for them in a ballistics calculator. your 100-600 yards come ups might be right on, but get out to 1000yard+ and they will be off.
