I will do it. I built a 20 PPC with a 8.5 twist PAC-NOR barrel which loves the discontinued 50GR BERGERS and can not find any. I contacted BERGER with no help in finding any from them or their dealers. This gun is TOPS for long range P-dog shooting. THANKS for the idea in contacting them!!
Update: after a number of discussions with Sierra they have declined to produce a heavy 20 caliber bullet at this time. They are currently in the middle of multiple projects and that was the primary reason for their decision.
That is interesting that you are slowing down so much, my load is giving me about 3680 at the muzzle but I'm still knocking on 2300 at 550 yards. I have to go out to 800 to drop below 1800 fpsI too would like to see a 50 gr bullet.
I built an 8 twist 20 BR to shoot the Berger 55s. They penetrate nicely but expand poorly at long range. They start out over 3500 at the muzzle (reloader 17) and have less than 1800 when they hit the bank at 550 yards at the range. When they break clay pigeons, they often do not move the parts. When I put a clay pigeon in front of a large stone in the clay bank, the Berger 55s will dust the pigeon with the rock fragments. I hit the target frame (fir 1X2) and it did not splinter it at all. Exit hole looked like the entrance.
I believe that the Sierra plastic tips melt, just like the Hornady propaganda says. The Hornady plastic tips probably also melt. At 400 yards the accuracy in my .20 PPC and .204 Ruger falls off dramatically. I found the 77 Sierra Tipped MatchKing was terrible in my .22 6.5-47Lapua Improved. It shoots the 80 MK Sierras and Nosler Competition 80s just fine at 550 yards on our Range.
