.20 cal. 50/55 gr berger

Is anybody shooting these and what cartridge are you shooting them out of? Thinking about a custom open prairie coyote rifle but not sure what cartridge to base it off of.
Any comments are welcome. at this point it's the .20-250 but not sure whats all out there.

Thanks

Jason

I shoot the 55's exclusively out of my 20BR, and I love them. At 1000 yards, they will compete with my 7WSM (accuracy wise)!!! I tried the 50's also, but the 55's grouped just as well, so I stuck with the 55's and the higher BC.

I can tell you that the 20BR is perfect if you want to shoot 55 grainers. Now that I have been doing so since early summer, I have no desire or need to build a .20 caliber to shoot smaller grain bullets......

A side note: My 20BR is in a "predator calling" configuration (a repeater and lighter contour barrel for carrying), and I shot 3 coyotes with it last week and the 55's were very impressive as all ended up DRT!!!!

i shoot the 50's through a 20 Dasher Not much difference between the 50 & 55 when you factor in velocity and drop according to my ballistics tables...

I have a 20 ppc, and it shoots realy well. One thing though, I found two different 50 grners. Both Berger #20305 & #204050T . I have`nt been able to get the 20305 to shoot nearly as well .

If you don't mind me asking what bottom metal and mag system are you using to get reliable feeding from the BR case.

Thanks

Jason

I have both a 20 br and a 20-250 after bilding the br with a 12 twist I havent shot the 250 with a 9 twist 50 and up will only shoot in my 9 twist 250 and. I only shoot 40s in my br
I shot my deer this year with my br with 40grners and it was 1 shot and he rolled down the mountain. my br is in a 700 rem with no alterations to the mag and have vary reliable feeding but I load them twards the front of the well insted of the back like a 250 or 243.
Mine are both set up as cary guns I primaraly hunt coyotes and such I do love my br!

Have just put together a .20 BR with the Savage PT Action and a 8 twist barrel.
With 55 Berger's 29.5 RL 15 got 3535 FPS and good acuracy.
" " " 29.5 N540 got 3530 FPS " " "
Tried 31.5 Big Game and 30.8 IMR 4007sc and did not get velocity over 3375 without problems with pressure.
Am going to continue with N540.

I'm using a standard Remington BDL 700, but I replaced the follower and spring with a shorter one from Brownells. I then made a block of wood to take up the space in the rear. I can get it to feed very reliably, but it took getting used to the feel. A "new comer" usually has problems feeding it until I show them the little tricks. Although I can get it to feed well, I would still like a gunsmith to maybe work his magic to make it even better. If I stuff 4 rounds in the magazine, it feeds the first 2 or 3 really well, and then the last one or two will sometimes get bound up.....a tension thing, I think. But for the most part, I'm used to it and rarely have any issues.

I`m going to have a .20 Dasher built with a 9 twist just to shoot the 50`s and maybe the 55`s too.....

Since Lapua will soon be offering 22-250 brass and because
your shots will be paced better than a pd rifle I would opt for the 20-250.I think the 10 twist would be a better choice
if you plan to use Berger 50's.If 55's are all you plan on using
the 9 should work fine. You can pick up a cheap 22-250
donor rifle that is shot out and have a premium 'smith install
a good barrel and be up and running pretty quick.Hope your
project gives you lots of fun, sounds like it will.
