20 BR loads for the 50/55 grn Bergers

Looking for 1st hand experience with powder choices for the 20BR using these heavyweights . I have tried Berger, several sites & following leads that I was given . I now turn to , what I hope is, practical expierience . HELLLLLLLLLLLPPPPPPP!

Lots of experience......

R-15 is what I ended up with. I shoot the 55's at 3600+ which puts me at the edge of too hot in my 1-8 twist 25.5 inch Lilja barrel. However, I did a lot of testing trying to shoot a more mild load and found my groups would only open up and so I kept going back to my hot load. For now, I'm sticking with it.

I use 30.5 grains of powder with 205 primers. Just so you know my buddy can't shoot that hot of a load in his rifle, so I think he uses 29.0 grains and he still sees pressure signs.

I shoot the 55's in my coyote rifle and found them to be extremely good at killing with little damage to the hide.

Three of us have shot 55 Bergers this last year. One Douglas barrel with 8 twist using 29.5 N540, One Pacnor barrel with 8 1/5
Twist using 30.0 N540 and one Lilja barrel with 9 twist using 28.5 N540 and 29.5. RL 15. Tried other powders but no luck. Would like to try RL 17 some day to see if the case would be filled up more.
These bullets are the flatest shooting bullets we all have ever used
and are devastating on Pdogs. Our velocities are around 3500 to 3600 with these loads.
Good Luck shooting.

I use 50gr Bergers, load is 29.5gr N150 with a BR4, two thou off. Shoot 100 yard BR with it ( last shoot agged in low .4s) and also as my go to fox rifle. 27 inch Barlien barrell, 1 in 9, 3500fps. A sweet load in what I think is a heavy rifle.
