20 Br and 20 Pratical

I have both of these chamber reamers at the Smiths and both have .233 neck. Can anyone help me as to which bushings to use with Lapua 6mm and Dakato/Lapua 223 .

What I need to know is when I neck both these pieces of brass down to 20 cal what will their outside/loaded diameter be. I need to order bushings so I need this info.

Thanx,
Jim

my bad..... i thought this was a forum to share info......
i read the article on this site about 20 practicle and was kicking around the idea of a build ..... trying to get all the info i could......

I don't think using a bushing to size to 20 BR is going to work. I had to use me 22 BR FL die for the first sizing so that the neck was sized all the way back to the shoulder. My seated neck dia. with a bullet seated is .0235 using the new blue box Lapua Brass.

I size my 20br in four steps starting with cardboard box Lapua brass. I start with a 22br seater with the plug removed then a 22br sizer with the guts removed then a 20br die with a .235 bushing and finally a .231 bushing. Loaded rounds measure .233. The new plastic box brass is .001 thiner. You should be able to size just like I have mentioned except end with a .229 bushing and end up at .231 loaded. This should give you plenty clearance for your chamber. I have tried using a .232 bushing in my initial sizing process and it will not hold a bullet.

Head over to saubier.com and check out the forums. A guy whose user name is Fireball is on that forum, he is the guy who created the .20 Practical, you can read his articles on the 20 cal page of this site.

20 Practical is made from .223 brass necked down to 20 cal. When you say Lapua/Dakota brass, that is 20 Tactical brass (not to be confused with the 20 Practical). Necked down Lapua .223 brass comes in right around .230" - .2305", so a .228" bushing typically works. If it were me I would get a .228" and a .229".

FYI new lot Lake City '10 223 and Win 223 brass needed .225"-.226" bushings for final step on the 20 Prac I did recently. .227'-.228" loaded.
