.20/.223AI Reamer Ordered

Spec'ed a .20/223AI reamer today from PTG. Called for a no-turn neck with Lapua Match cases and the Hornady 40 gr. V-Max out of the doughnut region of the neck. Dave said a .231nk with .45FB and a 1deg-30 throat is what to use. 6-8 weeks and I will start a new build, Woo Hoo! ;D Chose this as I already have the .223AI dies and cases o'plenty.

I wouldn't be surprised if you have your reamer sooner than that time frame. I ordered a custom 22x47 Lapua reamer and had it in hand in 27 days if I remember correctly. I chambered a barrel with it last Saturday and it cut slick as ice.

Couldn't you call that a .20 Practical AI? :D

Should be a screamer. My 20 Practical would easily do 4000+ with 39gr SBKs from a 26" barrel. Accuracy was at 3850 though.

I have thought of this exact caliber..... 8)

I believe you`ll like it,please keep us posted.

Yes but PTG listed it as a .20/.223AI so I just went with that.
I get 32 grs. +/-.1 of H2O in the .223AI Lapua cases so I will end up with something less than that. That's about 1 grain increase over the standard .223 but the 40 degree shoulder looks sexy and virtually no trimming makes me happy! ;)
I still have to decide on a twist but have already decided on a 3 groove PacNor tube, all mine shoot and clean great! I am not so sure I will ever shoot the Berger 55's but I guess I better make up my mind! I'm thinking 400 yards would be my imposed limit with it as I have plenty others when the ranges extend beyond that.
What do you think for twists? I'm thinking a 10tw for the 40 gr. V-Max or the 39 grain Blitz King.

I was shooting an 11 twist with my straight 20 Practical. Shot the 45s well too. You're spot on as far as your 400 yard threshold. Out to 400 the Practical was a laser, after that it ran out of gas pretty quick- you may get a bit more range with your ai. Good luck, and good shooting!

I have the .20P in a 1-11 pacnor and it shoots lights out with 32vmax & 39bks. In my 20P ar, it's a 1-10 and it shoots them equally well. If you plan on shooting anything heavier than the 39/40s, I'd go with the 1-10.
