20-222 and an unlucky housefly

20 TAC

Just thought I’d share what I’ve been lucky enough to do with both of my 20-222’s now. Today I used a Tikka 595 with a 12 twist Lilja to do the job. It has been about 5 years since this rifle had made a trip to the range. Couldn’t have asked for a better afternoon to shoot…highs in the mid 50’s and a light wind of about 5 mph. In the middle of shooting a 5 shot group, a pesky housefly made his 5th or 6th appearance on the cardboard backer. It turned out to be his last .
This cartridge never ceases to amaze me. It sure helps to start with one of the most inherently accurate cartridges in the 222, then simply neck down to 20, and quickly find loads that shoot very accurately. Huge 20 cal fan and the 20-222 is near the top of the list.
A few pics of the carnage—

Outstanding

Here’s my 2023 kills. A, B, C, D were centerfire. Don’t remember which was which, but they were 6PPC, 20PPC, and 2 with a 20 Vartarg. I remember ”C”, was with the Vartarg. I missed on the first shot, but somehow he sat there about 6 seconds too long! As you can see, got the last 2 in one day with my CZ MTR 22 at 50 yards. Those slow moving rimfires leave a real mess!

The 20-222 is one of those Goldilocks cartridges, not big, not to small, but just right.

As much as I like the cartridge I've barely shot mine at all and often think about selling it but then I read about someone's and I think maybe I'll just hang on to it.
