2 nights/7 coyote

I piled 4 coyotes up Thursday night and 3 tonight, makes up for those other "slack" days sometimes.
MMR AR15, .223, 55g hand load. Tonight I popped the longest at about 360 yards at the very end if the IR beam behind the fence line below me and into the agri crop field, no moon either night out here & the IR comes in handy for those times.
This was at a new ranch up a gully downwind & below a dead cow they had just about decimated in a week. Not knowing where these dogs come in from I had to guestimate. Looking at the cow when it snowed coyote tracks were from every direction like a pinwheel. Well the 9 that showed tonight starting at 530pm were...YUP all below me into the gully funnel & scented me almost faster than Obama lies. The 3 I got here were all at the fence line 200 yards down hill and walking it trying to get where I was & barking like no tomorrow. I popped one at the fence, the other later when it came back and popped up across from me at about 130 yards and the other at 161 yards below me.
The 4 others were at another ranch in his bottom land feeding on a cow also., another at 165 steps, 131 steps, 52 steps, 269 steps.
Back at it Saturday eve I will be.

Wow, that IS a good couple evenings worth of hunting. Nice looking yotes too.

When I see the yotes that you fellows get out west, I'm struck by how consistently they are marked. Back here, if you got 7 they would have a range of markings from a blonde, "normal", to perhaps a brown one. I guess ours here are more "mutt" than those out there. ;) WD

What scope are you using?
Would like to get night vision just don't know what is good and what is junk.

Scope:
Night Optics D740, autogated, 3rd gen 4x.
IR K2 for light when needed.
FLIR ps32 for detection/scanning.
There are 100s of NV scopes out there, Night Optics is pretty much the mostly used dedicated one.
It can be had in many configurations/power etc.
They are very good.
Others use the QD front NV scope that attaches to your day scope or a helmet & pv14/22 NV unit.
I like the scopes since I hate stuff hanging off my head and when its -19 out I want my head warm!

I have never hunted coyotes on purpose, but have been told the nose is awesome. If they can smell ya THAT fast, they must be supernatural, cause that man lies faster than light!

Great post, great shooting, and nice rig
