1St 6br

Looking at buying a Savage LRPV 6 norma Br 1 in 8 Twist. Will use for hunting groundhogs here in Pa. and in 2,3 and 500yrd match. Shoot long range for hogs. Most shots 6 to 800 yds. and some out to 1k. Never had a custom build, and am only 3-4 years into reloading. Loading so far with a Hornady single stage press and RCBS standard dies and one Gold Medal Seat Die. Looking to get more serious in the factory class match shooting, and asking what advise y'all have as far as dies, press, technique, whatever you can give. Been reading some things on this site and have some new ideas already. Plan to use Lapua brass and maybe invest in an arbor press. I guess I mostly "compete" against myself. Just want to progressively improve.

Thanks, kd.

Good to hear from another Pa. shooter in this "game". I'm from SW Pa. and do the 1,2,3,4& 500 yards & meter G'Hog BR match's, also using a 6 BR. You'll be getting a no-turn chamber neck with the Savage, but even at that I would suggest the Redding Type S FL neck bushing sizer die. You will be able to control the case neck tension by having a choice of bushing(s) used & you will not be overworking your case necks, as will happen with a one piece sizer. You can also eliminate the use of the expander which is another big advantage. I prefer & use the Forster Micrometer benchrest seaters, but also have and use a Wilson seater die with an arbor press for the 6ppc's. The Wilson's are primarily used for bullet seating only, so you would still need a conventional 7/8x14 threaded sizer die for when the shoulders must be bumped back and/or the case body sized. This already has the makings of another one of my long, rambling posts, don't want to do that, so feel free to PM if any questions. :)

I keep coming back to the Harrell's semi-custom FL bushing die and a Wilson seater.

this is the combo Ive been using and feel you'd have to work really really hard to marginally best it.

if you decide against a new savage, bob white has a large selection of used custom bench guns that, in the big picture and long run are not too much more than the savage and you'll get 100 times the gun.

If you've been reloading for a few years you'll probably be shocked how easy it is to load and tune a 6br, I sure was.

does Bob White have a different site?... the shooters corner i went to had an outdated list of inventory... didn't see much point in looking through the list beings it was so old.

I also found his list to be outdated. His inventory is probably so large they just can't keep up with it. Call direct & tell Bob what you are looking for. Let him do the search.

he updates it several times a year. he said it will be updated in a few weeks. best to call him. tell him what you want he may have it.
