195gr Berger in 284 or 284 Shehane

I'm putting together a long range hunting / F class rifle together on a Barnard P Action & Trueflite barrel. Just ordered a 32" 1-8" twist after reading about the 195gr Bergers. Based on a few rough calculations I figure that the plain 284 might just shoot these around 2,600 fps & the Shehane maybe 2,700 fps. While the speeds don't look great it should rival if not slightly exceed the 180's at 2850 fps. Anyone reckon I'm dreaming with the speeds that may be available from this projectile case combo?

P.S - Anyone doesn't happen to have a lonely 195gr Berger that they wouldn't mind posting to NZ for throating purposes?

I had a friend, now no longer with us, who shot the 189 Cauterucios with a 280 Remington and a 31 inch barrel. He was able to get 2700+ with no problems and he didn't push things at all so I think your expectations are right in line with what I would expect from a 284 or Shehane.

I did try some 189 Cauterucios in an 8" twist True flite, 31" long. The accuraccy was bad (likely due to Cauterucios being slightly oversized and the True-flite slightly undersized). It did get to 2700 fps though, warm, but only slight cratering, easy ejection. This barrel is very accurate with 180s, but is now is 28" long and waiting for the 195 Bergers to come out to try in 1000yd Lightgun with a brake.

Was that in the plain 284 or Shehane derivative? Do you mind if I ask which powder you were using to reach 2,700fps with that particular projectile?

I just finished fire forming 77 peices of 284 Shehane today with the 180 Hybrid. Ave of 50 shots was 2865 fps with 56.5 gr. of H4831SC. Great 1/4" node on three ladder tests of 56, 56.5 and 57 gr. of powder. Bullets seated at lands for fireforming. Barnard P with 30 Broughton 5C.

I tried RL-17, slight pressure at 56.5 and 57 grains, velocity was over 3050 fps but accuracy stunk

Ford Nutter. I used 2213sc, or H4831sc in a Shehane chamber to get these speeds. I think this barrel is tight, but fast (used less powder to get to the same speeds compared to other barrels with the same reamer). The primers showed no cratering at all, and the cases which were very slightly sticky in the base from previous firings, did not get worse and primer seating did not change. The bullets were jammed .015". I,m thinking that with the 195s likely prefering to be jumped, the 2700 fps node SHOULD be OK in MOST barrels.
