1959 Remington 40x 22lr w/ J. W. Fecker scope

I am currently looking at a 1959 Remington 40x 22lr with a heavy barrel. It has a J. W. Fecker scope and comes with the original Redfield Olympic rear sight and the original tube front sight and has an additional Redfield International Match rear sight. I've been doing some research on the gun and am not finding much information. The rifle's condition is 90% to 95%. Is there a downloadable manual? Is there any standard/expected pricing available? Any other information that I should know? I'm just trying to learn as much as I can about the gun.

This fellow might still be able to help you on the manual.

I would value it at $1500 if in decent shape. It is off the 722 Remington I believe.

You don't mention the power on the Fecker scope but if it in the 12 to 20 power it can go for up to about $600 in servicable condition, in perfect condition they can be close to $1K,. The gun with sights, if truly 95% can bring up to $2,200 +- depending on the crowd bidding. They have a dedicated following and for good reason, they are as good or better than the Winchester 52 which is what they were designed to compete against. After market parts are still available, unlike the Rem Model 37 which preceded the 40X and are aftermarket orphaned: example, Model 37 original magazines typically bring $200 to $300.

Over on rimfire central they have a dedicated sub forum.

I have bought and sold several 40X's and 40XB's in the last few years, the 40X in question would be very desirable. I am not an expert on the scope, so I would value the rifle alone, at 1250.00 to 1600.00 I like the 722 based 40X rifle a little better than the 700 based 40XB. That is just my opinion however.

15 years ago I picked up #0065 commercial 40X and a Unertle 2" Ultra 20X for $950. Sold it two days later for 75 dollars more. I really didn't have the cash....I sold it cause I knew it would go and I just wanted to shoot it once. A former Remington exec bought it for an investment. He laughed at me when i offered to buy it back a year later when I had the money...If it is honestly 90 percent, the guesses/estimates are accurate.

I cannot comment on the Fecker. They were more rare than the Unertle and the Lyman of the day.

I recently purchased here a 1959 40x CMP standard barrel with B&L Balvar 24 scope. All matching and metal about 95%. Appeared to not have been used a lot as all bluing on bolt knob. Only one small mark on barrel from rack. Scope was a little cloudy but I cleaned it and it is good now. I paid $1650 and happy. I also adapted a set of Anschutz receiver and globe front sights. Good looking vintage rig and it shoots good about 3/8” for 10 shots @ 50yds with Midas +.
