1911 threaded barrels? Bueno,No bueno?

Hello Patriots, so I have a Tisas 1911 with 5” barrel, FS, pretty sweet for the price. So I was looking into replacing the barrel with a 5 1/2 “ Threaded Barrel. Any recommendations? I realize that no barrel is a true Drop in, so I am good with a dremel tool! Thank you in advance. Carlos.D

I've fit many 1911/2011 barrels. However I had a mentor and now have the special tools and a milling machine. They are not drop in or minor fitting.

You need to fit the barrel hood, sides and back. Then fit barrel to bushing (or barrel diameter to slide) to get proper upper lug engagement. Then you need to fit lower lug to slide stop. Fit proper barrel link. Finally check chamber with go guage and finish ream accordingly.

Not saying you cannot do it with a file but to many variables to go wrong.

I think Kart sells an EZ fit barrel where you file down a boss on the upper lugs, so you do not need to fit the lower lug. But I think they still need the other steps for fitting

Stymie about summed it all up, I would also recommend a Barsto barrel or Wilson Combat. The lugs can be fitted with the proper files, just go slow and check the fitting often. That is how I was taught by Bill Laughridge (Cylinder & Slide).

Also good advice above about throwing the dremel out.

Yep...not a 15-minute job.

I'd take a look at a KART x-act fit barrel. I think you have to call them to order one with a threaded muzzle.

Doesn’t Wilson Combat have a drop in. But still I would pay to get the barrel fit along with the correct link. There is a lot to be said for doing correctly.

Unless Kart has changed things, they have never offered threaded 1911 barrels.

If you want to thread a Kart x-act (formerly EZ-fit) barrel to a 5" 1911, I would start with
their 6" barrel, but (important) order it for a 5" slide, so the bushing "flare" is is the right place.
The x-act fit, like all their barrels, is of the maximum highest quality, but, as suggested above,
even those absolutely require knowing what you are doing, and the tools to do it with.
Several of the famous name, higher priced manufacturers use Kart barrels, even if
some of them choose not to admit it.

Agree with what has already been said 1911 barrels are not really drop in regardless of what they advertise. As to a threaded barrel are you wanting this for suppressor mounting or are you thinking compensator? If compensator you now add another fitting requirement if you want it to fit properly and look nice.

Well I already have a compensator on it and it fit great with just a little polishing.
So I am looking to put a can it , I have come to realize all Handguns except a 22lr
Are very inaccurate (9mm ) although, my AR 9 handles well with barrel Muffler. I just wanted to try it out ,since the 1911 is on a Recover Tactical MCK. Thanks again Buddy.Carlos

Kool, I shall look into that Buddy, You are awesome, this is the first time I have ever join a forum, just wish I had done it sooner. Thanks again.Carlos

I have heard of SARCO, but I'd not go there unless I wanted original military parts for a 03 Springfield or a '98. Much of everything else is seconds or from the scrap bin. Where that Dremel tool belongs, the scrap bin. That's not a 'tool' for any precise fitting task.
