1903 mounting solutions

To be honest most b-square mounts were very flimsey. But if thats all you can get,I would try it. You may want to field your question to one of the american military sites where they discuss this evryday.Just google it.Like most sites they are eager to help.Let us know what you find out as I may also be interested myself.

You might want to go the CMP's forum website. There are a lot of folks who are scoping 03's & 03A3's for the Springfield "sniper" class matches. Here is the link:

DO NOT get the STD. Leupold 1 piece base. I purchased 1 for a freinds 03A3. The rearmost hole for the front reciever screw is REALLY close to the rear edge. The base looks more likely to fit a SA reciver than the 03A3 even tho all markings on the package and base itself say Springfield 03A3

I had one and it was a waste of money. Id get it sighted in and locked down but next time out it would be off again. My suggestion if you want a scoped 03, build a faux 03a1/Unertl or a 03a4 as that is what I did.

Anyone ever mount a scope with B-square mounts? Any other suggestions?

I've done both 1903 Springfields and 03-A3's with S & K scope mounts, check here:

jo191145,

That's odd that gunaccesories.com sells the B-Square mount for $30 more!

I am in the process right now of mounting a redfield 1 piece base on an 03A3. That had been sporterized, it is some of the hardest steel I have ever drilled. My tap drill bits would not go through it, I had to use special drill bits to get through it. Be careful drilling and tapping whatever you decide.

Yep on the hardness of a 1903 receiver and have experienced the same thing on a sporterized M1917 too. After failing to make a dent in drilling my receiver, I asked an elderly gent that has done gunsmithing on the side for over 40 years, to D&T it....he refused the job. Next asked a licensed gunsmith to do the work and he too didn't want the job. Heck, if you are able to drill the receiver, which I was able to do with carbide drill bit, the tapping of the hole will be your next challenge.
