184 Hybrid Pointing

Is anybody pointing the new Berger 7mm 184 Hybrids? If so, which of the pointing dies are you using and did you get much in the way of results? Thanks.

I have the "Hoover Pointing / Tipping" die system. I use it for the 30 cal. 200-20X and 215 Hybrids. They have meplats that can stand a little attention! However, to me the 184s are nigh on to perfect and fiddlin' with them may only serve to hurt them! I advise against pointing the 184s.. But like anything else, that's MY opinion...

IMO you are more likely to cause issues than improve the already excellent meplats on the 184 Hybrids. I'm with Ben on this one. Maybe we should ask @falconpilot if he was shooting pointed 184 Hybrids at the Louisiana State Championships this year ;). Jim...got ya' ears on good buddy?

I shoot with one top competitor who does point them but also know many others who don’t. It’s a darn good point out of the box compared to the 180s which needed all kinds of help. Hoover does make a 184 specific insert but I found I had a lot more trouble pointing them compared to how easy the 180s pointed. For me on that particular bullet I found it introduced more potential issues than it solved.

Jim Fowler set a new F-Open 600yd 20 shot record of 23X shooting them this past October. I was pulling his target and witnessed at least 15 of them go into a 1 1/4" group. To point or not to point....you decide:).

Thanks for the info guys. I also point the 180 Hybrids, but it sounds like I'd be better off leaving the new 184's alone.

Gonna jump in here and offer a humble opinion taught to me by some incredible shooters over the last few years ...Yes I am pointing and trimming both My 7 Shehanes....180's& 184's & the jury is still out. More importantly! Prove any changes to yourself on paper ! Then in at least another session look for confirmation of your changes .Keep good records and hopefully you can do this at the distances you actually plan on shooting. I offer this only because it has started to help me (proof is in my targets).
Second point would be don't just abandon something cuz it didn't work the first time- or from table talk.... every barrel, action, stock, rests or chambering DEMANDS a different diet. With good records and lots of trials you will see what your particular combination likes. Then later you will see what it REALLY likes.
As far as to point or not to point-One very accomplished shooter(there are many!)@Deep Creek "barely kisses them and trims just a little" --he has done the hard work and I've seen his effort rewarded on his targets.
Every shooter I have met loves it when their plan comes together. Good luck & keep changing it up!
