17wsm

Good question. I was kinda thinking about one myself, till I looked around for ammo. Maybe somebody makes one with a bayonet lug? At least it wouldn't be totally useless! ::)

Ditto on a .17 HMR, BTW.

Untill I can purchase a case of 17 WSM ammo and a CZ or Ruger 17 WSM rifle I ll pass on the 17WSM.. The WSM may be like the Rem 5 MM RF round and be unavailable in a few years.

The ONLY way I'd consider one is if CZ or Ruger made one.

The B-mag is a piece of.....something. Pretty crude gun all the way around.

And the shortage of ammo is going to put this gun into the "collectors boneyard" real soon I think.

What--Anschutz & Cooper don't make the cut? :)

A Savage Rep came to our Club and brought a number of savage guns, one being in 17 WSM (a prototype gun) it shot terribly compared to the 17 HMR.

My guess is that the cartridge is just not accurate enough and will end up being a dead idea.

I bought one when they first came out and bought a half of a case of ammo .......shot it off the bench ...WOW! ..put in is a vise we made bolted to the bench and at 100 yards shot 5 shot group that measured 12"!!!!!!!i toolkit back and demanded my cash!!lol

Putting it in a vise is NOT good for accuracy.

Haha it's not what you think..it's was designed for a rifle and the trigger is pulled with a liquid pump..all it's ment for is to eliminate the shooter himself

I m an old timer. Over the years never have I read about a rifle action and stock with the amount of problems that the Savage B Mag rifle has had. The new B Mag action is like no other Savage rimfire rifle action. There has also problems with Winchester 17 Super Mag rimfire ammo. I have ben looking for a box of 17 WSM ammo to add to my cartridge collection but have not found any. Savage has a new heaver barrel model B Mag but the stock is still junk and some a putting Boyd wooden stocks on their rifle.

I saw a number of them for sale (rifles) on Gunbroker not long agoa nd many of the retailers were selling them with an accompanying supply of ammo. The price for both did not seem too bad to me. I guess they realized that there would be no buyers without ammo. As to every report on the testing of the new rifle, it shoots like crap - only one writer came right out and siad it. It should have been built as a true varminter - not some light-weight "walking varminter" in a cheap junk stock. As much as I want one - I'll wait till Savage or another company comes out with a shooter.

+1 amen !! 1 vote for CZ 455 17 WSM heavy barrel! !!

I don't believe any other manufacture will or should step into this 17WSM mess until the ammo quality and availability issues are resolved.

did see a nice single shot in 17wsm about two weeks ago. falling block octagon barrel. he had not shot it yet , but had purchased a case of ammunition at the last gun show.

I was in WY week before last shooting sage rats with some buds. One of the guys told me he brought a Savage 17WSM. I thought I would be totally unimpressed; wrong.
He had the S/S HB version and it looked far better than the standard. Also, I had heard trigger pull and bolt were stiff in order to get consistent ignition on the thick rims. Not the case. Trigger was about 1 1/2 pounds and bolt lift, while firm, was not at all a fatiguing operation. He had it zeroed for 300 yards which was a bit too high but the thing shot great; far better than the 12" mentioned here. I am not saying I will run out and get one. I have a 17HMR CZ452 and a custom CZ 527 in 17 Ackley Hornet so any more 17's is just not on my bucket list. Once ammo and rifles are equally available (and alternate brands) I think this big 17 can get some steam.

was at a LGS on Friday and they had several boxes along with lots of rimfire ammo. They were gouging on the price 24 dollars for a box of 50 in 17wsm. 50 dollars for a box of 200 22 magnum. 5 dollars a box for cci standard velocity.

$24/50 is just crazy. I can buy brass and reload 17 Hornady Hornet for cheaper than that but then I am not restricted to rimfire on anything

Gunbroker's showing completed sales at $35.00 a box of 50.

The 17WSM is already dead. Everyone knows it except the cool aid drinkers. Even so, I hope they can locate some ammo to support their shooting...
