178 A-Max's, shooting from a 308

Just went through the worse day of my life!

Winds were bad today, front coming through, everyone was having trouble at the match, but still some very impressive scores were being achived!

I have shot in similiar conditions before. I have 178 A-Max's shooting pretty good out of my gun! But shooting in very choppy winds today up to 15mph+, gust 20+, the wind was all over the place. I shot the worse score I have ever shot in any match! I will be getting more Bergers as I have always placed in the match with no problem, even in similiar windy conditions!

I shot a 587 a week ago with these loads, app 21 X's. Today in the wind, I shot a 553 and maybe 7 X's. Is it common for the wind to screw up these 178 A-max's like this? Again, I never had his happen to Bergers or smk's in similiar conditions! I just practiced last Thursday and did great, the wind was a "little" more consistant!

I had the pleasure of shooting with Alton Britt of Dixie Precision Rifles, and William Wittman, both very well know shooter in the south. Alton dropped 7 and William dropped 9!!!! Just a comparision!!!!

Just can't explain what happened Saturday! My first A-Max match experience!

My experience has been...."The only substitute for horsepower is more horsepower." Might be why the SMK's and Bergers are so popular.

I'd say "pick & choose your fights wisely" ... then again I was using Lapua this weekend and shot a perfect ZERO for the match !! Didn't see any hits at 600 and when I went to 1K to see if I'd even hit backer .. nix, nein, nada !! Welcome to HardRock ! O h did I mention it was raining and the wind was going every whichaway ?
BTW, the practice day before I had a neat 3" group at 1K, too bad it wasn't in the black !!

I love this sport.

That's about the way it was where were shooting! Again, I did great Thursday, Saturday, I could have burned the gun! or Ammo!
