175gr 7mm eldx ladder

nastynatesfish

A day which we will live in infamy
Anyone shooting these in a 7rem
Mag? Got a box to try out. Here's one seated to my lands to touch. Measure at 3.530, still fits in my magazine to feed also. Mines a 1-9 twist. Gonna try a ladder with retumbo first then try some h4831sc since it's what I shoot with the 162amax
A 162 eldm compared to a 175eldx

175s loaded up for a ladder test. Hopefully I can get it tomorrow before I go on nights.
Starting these on some new win brass. 70-72.7gr in .03 gr increments of retumbo. Seated at 3.525 base to tip. See how the print. Maybe next days off I'll run them over the crony

Interested in how that works out. I have similar tests loaded for a 7mm08 in 120, 140 and 168s, but too much snow and in the teens in Idaho right now. My huntin' rig is a 7mm RemMag, hence my interest.

Went out and shot my ladder. Looks like I found a good spot to start seating depth with. No pressure sign and all easy bolt lift. Might take it farther up to 73.5 and see what it does. But for now I'm gonna work the 71.8gr charge
71.5, 71.8 and 72.1 are 6-9 shots.

Here's the long round in my mag

The brass

No pressure signs and visibly cratered primers? I think you may want to cronograph a load or two there. If I had primers that came back like that, I'd be backing down right quick. Word on the street is that Retumbo is temperamental when it finally does decide to spike.

None of them were cratered. Might just be the way the pic looks. They all look the same as my 162 amax loads do

Things look good. Thanks for sharing.

And I agree with what rimfiremac said about Retumbo spiking. Had it happen with a compressed load of it at a charge weight I though was still safe. Was working up a load in one of my 300winmags and 2 gr below max (what I assumed might be max) I got a slightly heavier bolt lift and a half moon ejector print.

Quickload predicts 61,000 psi with 74 gr of Retumbo under 180gr Berg. Hybrid in the 7mmRemMag. So chances are you're ok to try going up in small increments of charge weight, but shooting over a chronograph would be wise.

I won't tell you the hare I use in 300wm. But that's close in mine with a throated chamber and 230 bergers

I used the 175 eldx this fall. the bullet performed well on a small bull at 405yds. first shot low in the chest. exit. he was still standing but turned and the second broke two ribs on the near side and was under the skin of the neck on the far side. nice mushroom and flat elk. I used rl 25 for no good reason but I have some to use up and used the same load I use for 180 hybrids. my 1-9 bartlien likes the hybrids a bit better. load about .5 to .7 moa, not pushing this load to much, 2950 mv. 7mmRM

I am going to try the eld x in my 260 soon
