175 SMK versus 178 gr A-Max

Who here has loaded both of these bullets in their .308?

How much different did your charge weights change when changing from the 175 to the 178 gr bullet?

The bullet styles are very different and I'm still trying to figure out whether to treat the 178 like a 180 gr bullet when searching for load data on a powder or if it's more like a 175 gr when it comes to pressures.

Any help out there?

I haven't shot the 178 in a .308 but, I have used it in a .300WM with great sucess. I used Bergers Data for the 175 and that seemed to work well.

178gr Amax, 42gr. IMR 4064, WLR primer, full length resized W W case, jammed is a sweet load @ 2550 fps in one of my heavy barreled .308's out to 300 yds. As with any any load information, approach it with caution by reducing by 10% to begin.

I load them the same. When I did a number of ladder tests with 155 to 178gr bullets, I found the nodes were within a narrow charge range for all of them, which occured at the same barrel time too. Of course pressure and velocity are not.
