175 SMK in a 13 twist?

Will a 175 SMK stabilize in a 13 twist 308 barrel. Barrel will be 30" long. Im at about 500ft ASL.

It definitely will in a 12 twist. I have shot 190 VLD's and won F/TR matches using a 12 twist. In fact, I am thinking about going back to my 12 / 190 vld combination.

I would imagine the 175 would in a 13 twist, if not, a 168 smk should.

They do in mine (30" Krieger 13 twist). They hammer out to 600 yards. I haven't shot them at 1000 yet.

DennisH, If the 190 VLD you are typing about is a Berger, you might want to rethink that unless you have a big stack of'em. Berger stopped making them.

I shot 175's out of a 13 twist and they did really well.

What is the difference between the old 190 VLD Match and what is now marketed as 190 Match Hunting VLD? The latter is listed in their website.

SMK's no problem out of 1:13 on stability.

I don't want to hijack the thread, but I never had luck with them with any twist. I have some I would be willing to get rid of.

I still have some 190's!

The Hunting VLD should have a thinner jacket. A Match/Hunting bullet, I will have to check into this.

Thanks for the replies guys. In my search for a replacement barrel for my FT/R rifle I was offered a 13 twist shillen and Id like to do what I am doing with my current barrel: Shoot 155 Palma SMKs until the throat wears too long and then shoot 175 SMKs.
