finally got the 77/17 to shoot,floated the barrel (relieved the stock pressure) tried the action shims and didn't need it,tried 20 and 25 grain a max they sucked,wood chuck dens were ok need a little work on load ,but what shot lights out are the 25 gr hornaday varmiter hollow pts with 12.6 grains of H335 1/4 inch group at 50yds compared to 1.5 with the Amax,now to tweak the powder and seating depth

I have shot the 17 AH with H-4227n powder for years, Max load is 10.4 gr. in my gun so start about 9 gr. in your 17 Hornet. Little Gun is another powder that should work well, but I never tried it because H-4227 shot so well in my gun.

With 20 grain bullets, I had the best results with AA1680 and VV N110, with 25 grain I used H322

I have a pound of Lil Gun but haven't tried it in the 17

The powders are hard to find because they are used in pistol cartridges and 300 AAC/blackout

VV 110 with 20 gr Vmax was by far the best with my CZ 17 hornet

1680 and 4227 have worked very well for me in an AH

I tried all the recommended powders and tried the light and heavy v-maxes, the light Berger and a Nosler bullet. All shot well with the powder they liked, with IMR 4227 being favored over Lil Gun due to the much lower pressure, though H322 worked best with the 25-grain bullets.
