17 Hornet - Recommended Seating Depth?

I've owned a CZ 527 17 Hornet for a couple of months but unfortunately have not been able to shoot it as loaded ammo and unprimed brass is as rare as hens teeth in my part of the world.
Finally got my hands on some unprimed brass and I am looking at working up a load using the 25gn Hornady HP over a starting load of 12 grains of H322.
Has anyone played with this combination in the Hornet and can they advise how much jump these projectiles like?

Thanks
Moo.

I think you will find that the seating depth is dictated by the magazine length, unless you use a single shot follower.

The single shot follower presents its own set of problems, but I did not see much difference between seating at maximum magazine length or seated out a little bit more when using the single shot follower.

The problem with the single shot follower is that the CZ is a controlled feed action, if you use the single shot follower the extractor is forced to "cam over" or jump over the extractor groove. I called CZ and they said this might eventually weaken or even break the extractor.

YMMV

You're right. CZ didn't do anyone any favours with their restrictive magazine dimensions. With the 25 grain Hornady hollowpoints I can get the bullet into the lands without any magazine issues. Just curious about how car off the lands I should seat the bullet. Sure is a mighty fine rifle though and that set trigger sure is sweet.

You could always put a single shot follower in, I seat my 527 17AH 2 thou off the lands as you need to be able to remove a live round without depositing powder everywhere.

I have been at 1.69 CAOL for the 25 gr HP in my CZ527 with 12.4 gr H322, Rem 7.5 primers and get 3/8" groups at 100 yards using Hornady factory or PPU fireformed brass

The Hornady reloading manual says length of 1.675" on the 25 HP

Awesome!!! Thanks Jeremy!!! With 3/8 groups at 100 yards I can't see any reason for complaint. Seems like I'm on the right track with this powder/bullet combination. My dummy cartridge is set at maximum length of 1.74, so if I was to seat at 1.69 like you I'd be 50 thou off the lands.
