anyone shooting a .17 hmr in benchrest. thinking about a dual purpose short range varmint/BR rifle

I don't do the benchrest stuff but I have a stainless Annie heavy barrel MPR in 17hmr that could probably do double duty if you didn't have to do much walking. I have the versapod bipod/palmrest setup and an 8-32 Burris on it and it is HEAVY. I like using it on the bench more than varminting. Shoots less than an inch at 100 yds, super tight at 50. Out of all manufacturers and weights/types of ammo, Hornady or CCI 17gr Vmax were the most accurate.

good luck..i compaired an accurate CZ 452 against a win 52d. mpr anschutz and a rem 40x @ 50m from the bench..i used sk match .22 and various .17hmr ammo..the .22 ammo was much better and more consistant...an accurate sporter does not a bench gun make....triggers..weight..setup..stock..all in favor of the target guns. it really was no contest..the lack of consistant .17hrm target ammo i see as one of the real drawbacks..no to mention the cost of the build to make it competitive ..for a dubious outcome..as a varmint rifle ..buy a CZ .17hrm varmint rifle and be happy

For spring prairie dog pup shooting I use a Cooper 57 M LVT 17 HMR. It replaced a Kimber Of O 82 22 WMR. The only time I shoot the 17 HMR rifle off a bench rest is to check out different brands of ammo. It will do sub one inch 100 yard five shot groups. No problem hitting p dogs at 150 yards.
