17 Fireball from Lapua??????

If I could make a sugestion, 25gr vmax .01 off the lands and 8208 is scary accurate. Some claim they dont get the speed but I had no problems hitting 3800 out of a 20". Good luck with the 30's I struggled with them on a 8.5 twist!!

I found , if I annealed before case work it would soften the case to much and turn my press into a single stage case crusher ..lapua brass can handle the work..but I would definitely anneal after completing case work..maybe even again after fire forming...
I think doing it after case work is good to remove the stress placed on the case caused by reforming and it's a critical time to anneal if you want longer case life..
Another good time to anneal would be after 2 firings, yet before your 3rd. Full length sizing, and reload...just my method..I'm sure in time you will find what works best for your practices.
There are many ways to skin the cat lol. I just keep messing around until I find what gets me the results I'm looking for and then adapt that method..
But then I find another member posts some new way with a short cut..or revealed some secret reloading black magic and change my precious method..lol.
Let us know how things work out for you

Read that twice hes spot on!

Vmaxpro..thank you for the pics..did you make that die..or send it out to be cut..could a reloader just purchase the die and full it off in there garage with out the need for a lathe..

Well, kinda. I do precision grind on the side ( used to anyhow :( ) I used a cutoff chop saw and cut heavy and ground it to length and then ground the radius and polished it. I got some nasty scratches before polishing! I only did it because I had one laying around.

Success....................:D

I chamfered the inside / outside of my .221 Lapua brass, then in to a .20VT FL die, after that run it through a .17 Fireball FL die, expand the neck to .17, neck turn to .0115 and touch with inside / outside neck chamfer for good measure.........

I`m just a smidge deep on the neck turn into the shoulder, i can see a witness mark and just feel it with my finger nail, so i`ll adjust that back out, but other than that i think we have a winner....

Heck, it even chambers.........lol...

Looks like he will be getting his brass after all, i might even buy a box for myself, since i have the dies set up for it.....

Hip hip hooray!! ..lol..I haven't figured out if neck turning is necessary yet..or if it improves the accuracy..just my thoughts..

Bobcat,

With this particular reamer it is indeed necessary, heck it`s necessary with .17 Fireball brass.....

Phil.

This reamer wants the necks turned to .0115.

Haven`t even finished forming brass yet, let alone firing them......
