17-223 AR barrel source

I think I have myself talked into a 17-223, most likely will build on an AR platform. Have any of you bought a barrel in the last year or two, and know who the current suppliers are? There is limited information out there, most of it at least 5 years old. I am sitting on roughly 10K pieces of .223 brass, so not interested in any of the other 17s...

Lilja seems to have the edge in the particular caliber/bore... 17 caliber barrel (3 groove). There are several other very good barrel makers. Pac Nor makes a very nice barrel. When in doubt, post your question on a Varmint forum, such as Saubier, and they will point you in the right direction and also help you spend your money on the next project build that you didn't know you needed.

I have a Lilja 17-223 Improved 1-9" on a AR platform. Shoots good.

They began taking barrel order back in late Summer 2020. I assume they are back up to strength by this point in time.

Mike Milli at dedicated technologies carries Shilen blanks he chambers/machines to your specs. He list 17-223 as a caliber he does. I've only had one barrel done by him about 4 years ago. An 18" 6x45 1-10 twist I have been extremely happy with.

Just so you know. I was upset after building an ar 15 and bolt action 17 rem that brass was hard to get but after a lot of research I figured out how to make 17 rem out of 223 brass. Works great!!! The neck is a little thick on the first firing but shoots great and getting better all the time.

I may have to get the procedure from you. Right now I am still weighing the options between AR-platform and bolt gun, mainly from a final cost standpoint. I upgraded my F-TR rifle, the last one built on a Savage PTA. Putting a new barrel on that is an option I've been considering as well. Anyone have a source for Savage pre-fits in 17-223? I know Shilen does several 17 cals, but not 17-223 that I have seen..

I run a Black Hole barrel, 1-9 twist.
I get 1/2 Moa at 300 yards with 25gr hornday HP.

somewhere around 60 coyotes now with it.
