168 gr HPBT vs tmk..???

I know this may be a silly question but better to me to be safe than sorry..

I normally load the 168gr Sierra HPBT matchking but today they were sold out and I had to buy the tipped matchking bullets.. Do I load the TMK the same as the HPBT powder wise???

And if so how do they compair??? About the same?? They are I believe a little longer but I shoot a jump so that shouldn't come into play..

I have their reloading manual and don't see a section for them only the HPBT so I thought I would ask.. this is in .308

I'd recommend developing a new load. It's a different bullet with a different profile.

I just went through this recently in a 243. I have a great load with the 95gr smk (48gr H1000). For the tipped I figured the node would be pretty close to the smk so I loaded a few strings between 47 and 48.3. The TMKs ended up at 47.7gr of H1000.

FWIW, it was a new load for me going from an SMK to a TMK of the same weight . . . with the TMK having a higher MV using the same brass, primer, powder & charge, and distance from the lands.

Thanks guys I called Sierra also, I didn't think I was getting into new load time but you guys are correct.. They said back off half a grain and that these bullets were not jump friendly.. I went to buy another box of HPBT but it's the start as I can tell of panic buying... I was just getting close to needing a box and of course they were out so I bought these...38 miles one way...

Powder is leaving the shelves but primers are still there.. plenty of imr 4064 etc but no varget etc....plenty of cheaper bullets and a ton of Berger's but down here we don't have the long distance shooters.. people buy what's cheap and that's how it begins... noticed pistol bullets at a low also.. cheaper brands...

But it has begun.. here there's not a ton of reloading guys even though I am close to Austin.. but I see the shelves getting bare on a Monday.. I think the only reason there is what there is is because reloaders have stocked up big time after the great shortage.. I just didn't need anything else..

But as normal people are waiting on the words gun ban and it's going to be panic buying again it's showing its face already.. And like I said this isn't a huge reloading area and the shelves are clearing at Cabela's in Austin..
