150gr bullet for a 300 Weatherby

I got a buddy who needs me to load him some 300 Weath. ammo and he wants a 150gr bullet. It will be used on big muleys and elk. I dont have any experince w/ a bullet go`in that fast w/o wrecking lots of meat. What would be a good choice of a 150gr hunting bullet mov`in @3500fps? The range wont be over 400yrds and mostly around 2&3. Will just a bonded bullet work OK or a partition, or maybee an X-bullet. Over penetration will be an issue too. I`m just try`in to make him some ammo that drops game quick. Any sugestions?

Could be a good application for a Nosler Accubond.
They're available in 150gr 30cal and hold together pretty well at high velocities.
If 400yds is max, why bother driving them over 3300? It will avoid unnecessary blow-ups/meat loss.

I dont see the point of having a 300wby shooting 150s at way beyond needed speed for the intended task, way to much recoil to put up with when u dont have to.I never get some big mag guys.in my opinion having a big mag would be to shoot 180 and higher class bullets at a starting point of 300 or more.just to much damage with a pinpoint shot even. But that aside a barnes x,bear claw,accu-bond,inter-bond is the way to go.even a look at hornadys new tipped all copper bullet GMX i think its called,(just like a barnes tipped).

I am presently shooting CCI mag primers igniting 84 gr. of H-1000. This is pushing a Sierra 168 HPBT and have had no problems dropping large whitetails out to 450 yds. If you get time to get the feel of how your gun shoots with this combo then maybe a spine shot will wate even less meat. If it is a doe...then go for the neck. Just my opinion, and you know what they say about that.....Good luck!

I wonder if a 150gr bullet will stand up to this kind of speed at impact. Launching this at 3500fps and hitting something at anything much less than 300 yards is like holding your 30.06 at point blank and pulling the trigger. I would go with something heaver than 150 myself. Just my opinion.

You arn't likly to get over 3300fps from a 150gr bullet out of a 300WM. However, I would use only a Barnes triple shock at the 150gr weight for muleis and elk. Ideally, a 180gr bonded bullet is the right balance for penetration and energy transfer at or beyond 400yds. Over penetration and meat damage should not be of concern for either a 150 or 180 from a 300WM past 200yds. ;)

I doubt that would be an issue with a 150g monolithic bullet such as the tsx/ttsx/gmx/etip/gs custom hv, these bullets are designed for high impact velocities.
