14x at 100 yards?

So would 14 power be enough for shooting good groups at 100 out to 200 i can get a good deal on one now .why i ask

I dont shoot competition or anything, but i go for best i am able to shoot. I normally use 3/8 or 3/4 dots for targets .its going on a 223

I use a 14x for 600 yards and it does fine. I can't see the small .223 holes it makes but they mark it as I shoot.

The scope power doesn't shoot the groups. That's up to the shooter.
A 14x scope for 100 - 200 yard shooting is perfectly acceptable (I use a 12x out to 300 yards for ground squirrels). If you need to see the shot placement you might want to try shoot-n-see targets or pick up a good spotting scope.

I use a 24x at 50 feet on my 22 for NYS Sporter, but that's just me. It's completely up to the shooter. A lot of us think the bigger the better.

Depends on your purpose. If you are shooting for fun, sure. If you are looking to compete, it isn't even close. I wouldn't think of competing with less than 36X and for my old eyes, that isn't enough. The more power you have, the better groups you will be capable of. Of course, if you only have a 1 MOA rifle, extra power won't make the groups smaller.

You need at least one good wind flag and a scope that will allow you to see where the last shot went in relation to the condition you shot at. At 200 yards it's even more difficult to keep the shots in the group without seeing that last shot. With a 14X, I'm OK at a 100yards but doing so at 200yds is a challenge for me. I'd keep it at a minimum of 20X if you're going to shoot at 200yds. If you want to compete, 30X would be the bare minimum.

i have shot a lot of .25-.300 100 yd groups with a 14x, and a ton of pd out to 500+

unless you are to compete 14x is all you need to 200-300 for targets.

On the other hand, Hunter Class Score shooters with mandated 6 powers turn in clean scores and X counts that darn near rival their VFS counterparts which typically are equipped with 36 to 60 power scopes.
And once in a blue moon a 6x shooter bests the VFS crowd. I was at a shoot when a 250-24x was shot in Hunter and the top VFS was 250-22x in a field of 24 VFS shooters.

I really wanter a leupold vx2 . 6-18X40 i like the small size and glass is good .its just i dont have the 600$ rite now. I like the fact its only about 13.5 inches . Much bigger and the gun will be a scope .only has a 20 inch barrel

I should add that 6x Hunter Class shooters ALWAYS use a high power spotting scope to see where there shots went and to monitor mirage. So scope magnification (either by rifle scope or through using a spotter) is a great asset to shooting small.

Thinking back ,i have got a few good groups with a 10x i had once. Having clearer glass is probably better than high power
